I've seen a lot of people with Fortune cookie items saying "give me 20k or 15k for a <name of Nintendo item>" Those are just rip offs! Nintendo items aren't that rare anymore, you can get them more easily now. FORTUNE COOKIES!!!

Probably they offer at a high price because some people want to get them now instead of wasting play coins getting items they don't want. Plus, you never know what your gonna get when you buy a fortune cookie. It could take months to get the item you want.

10k really isn't that much

Go to the island. Get ~10k per beetle. End up with 300k from one trip in about 30 minutes. Buy 30 nintendo items that you want

Or, you could wait a whole day just to get 2 random items that you probably don't even want

15-20k is a lot for you?

BAHAHAHAHAHA

The Island is so easy to make bells from that it takes less than a minute to earn 20k.

I see that you edited the first post

But my point still stands:

30 minutes for 15 Nintendo items that you want
or
1 whole day for 2 random items you could probably care less about

Value for an item differs from person to person. If they think its worth it no point in telling them it's a rip off.
7-11 items to me are nothing special but doesn't mean that someone out there wouldn't pay me millions of bells just to get their hands on one of them.

It's really just that it's not catalog re-orderable. Stuff that isn't catalog re-orderable goes for a lot, regardless of rarity. The more rare stuff, like the 7-11 items, can go for millions of bells.

I wouldn't buy those. I'll just wait until I get them from the fortune cookies. But I can see people really wanting certain things and being willing to pay. Like others have said, once you unlock the island or start buying turnips, 10,000 bells is nothing. You can catch 1 beetle or 1 shark (depending on the kind) and get 10,000 bells.

That's nothing compared to other things.
I was offered 1 Mil for my white wet suit on gamefaqs. And I would happily hand over 10K for a Nintendo item I don't have but really wanted

Really op. Really? 10k is nothing. if they prices were in the 200k+ range THAT would be something to complain about. I got most of my nintendo stuff for 7k-50k

10,000 bells is pretty much nothing, as others have said, but you also have to keep in mind the general artificially inflated economy of the auction/sales boards for every game, where people shamelessly overcharge for even reasonably common items based on a skewed perception of scarcity and demand, furthermore based on self-serving notions about what actually constitutes rarity. That's just "how it is." Just laugh at it and move on.

The ripoff is a mass distribution of FREE content that people are selling and buying for millions of bells -cough shaved ice lamp cough-.
