Hey, is it true that your switch can turn off itself if it’s too hot? Or is this a load of rubbish and it’s just scaremongering?

I’m very worried to play my switch now just in case it does happen

I played Splatoon with 2 people recently who coincidentally lives in the UK and their Switch both overheated (but they're okay now). I guess, you'll be fine if you try not to play for long hours straight. If it happens, just let it cool. As long as the fan inside is still blowing, you just need to turn it off for a while. They said airconditioning isn't a thing there so I guess, that's not a choice.

It’s weird that you made this topic, actually because I recently had my XBOX shut itself off during an online matchup. I didnt know the reason, but I just turned it right back on and started playing. It hasn’t shut off since and that was the first time I experienced it.

I think if you just don’t play for very long hours, you’ll be fine. Try not to stress about it too much.

overheating a device does tend to either force it to shut down or otherwise melt its internals to the point of non-usability, yes

if it happens, just wait for it to cool down completely before continuing with it (and if it happens frequently, it may be time to look into repairs/replacement)

also, it should be obvious, but maybe don't play in the blistering summer heat either. since that could give a head start to the device overheating

I don’t know if my switch does overheat. I played my other switch a lot and it was fine I only played it Monday and it was 30 degrees

Most devices do shut off if it overheats. However, i think if you’re not exposing the switch to the elements like playing outside which why in the ever loving heck would you do that right now, you’ll be fine. I play mine inside when the outside temps are like 40° C but that is inside with air conditioning. If you do have air conditioning I think you’ll be alright. If you don’t then i would just pause on playing until the heat wave eases a bit. Also don’t go outside, drink water or something with electrolytes, and try and stay cool. I hope you have air conditioning. I live in the states but am also experiencing heat wave after heat wave. It’s disgusting and repulsive so try and stay cool!

I don’t have air conditioning. I’m just gonna play it whenever I want it’s below 30 degrees now so it should be fine… I played my old switch a lot probably in high heat sometimes and it never shut itself off. If I want to play I’ll play there’s nothing stopping me
