So it looks like you might not be able to transfer your game's Save Data to another Switch.. This was discovered on the back of the German cover for the game. Which likely leaves as the only option a full System Transfer. I'm pretty bummed about this as I was going to start off my game on my husband's Switch as he won't be playing the first month/6 weeks of release, and it would allow me to get a general feel of whether I want to get a full Switch for myself or rather a Switch Lite. But I wouldn't be able to take my game with me to my new console, I'd only be able to do that if I also took all of my husband's system data. Which obviously we'd both not want to do.

Anyway, you can read the whole article here:

I really hope they interpreted it wrong, but as I can read German I don't think they did and I guess this'll indeed be the case..

with google translate, it roughly says this:

"Only one island per console can be created. The transfer of user and storage data between consoles is not supported for this software" the rest being details to find on the German Nintendo site... well that puts a ding in anyone's plans that decided to do this ...

Read it yesterday, and several sites have confirmed it, or at least, posted that it's correct.

Our switch breaks, our games are gone.

I'm starting to wonder if it's really worth it.
All that money we give to nintendo, and they can't provide a simple alternative backup method. o_O

no, there is already an alternative mentioned in the original OP. you can fully transfer a system's data in the case of non-cloud/transferrable saves, and i highly doubt they would disable this for ac, cause thats way too much effort to exploit for item duping/other exploits. so you will be able to recover it in such cases as those, just not... conveniently

Yeah. I'd have to buy a new switch. :(

i might be misunderstanding something here, but if your switch broke wouldnt you have to buy a new one even if animal crossing supported cloud saves...?

I shouldn't have to buy a new one.
We should be able to save in game, so we can play the game on any switch.

Like NL on the 3ds.

oh, so you mean like--if you already owned two switches, and the one you use to play AC broke, how you cant do a full system transfer on the one you already have and would have to get a new one to transfer the data? youre just losing me on the not needing a new one if your only swtich breaks, is where i was misinterpreting

I don't have a switch yet, I've preordered it, and the lack of save options isn't making me a fan.

Didn’t you say you cancelled your pre-order like... several times?

I don’t get your argument anyway. You would have to buy another switch either way if your first one breaks, even if NH supported cloud saves. The only thing that would keep you from transferring your town would be if your Switch got stolen - and that would have been the same for the 3DS, DS and so on.

Don‘t worry- Nintendo consoles don’t break that easily. :)

Didn't Nintendo said now there is a way to safe the game in the case the switch gets lost or broken? But only for Nintendo online users. Was stated in another trade here. I can life with this way.
Still no transfer to other consoles sucks and I am not sure how Nintendo will work around.

The switch is based on the wii and wii u, which as systems would save onto the console and not the disk. Understandably it sucks that you cant save on the cartridge, but it makes sense as the switch is primarily a console and not a handheld system, with games for consoles saving on said console and not on the game cartridges themselves.

Also i wouldn't worry about your switch breaking, mines been knocked to the floor plenty of times and its fine, but if your so worried about it being broken put it in a safe space and buy a sturdy travel case for it (mine is eevee themed :) ).

that sucks. i?m careful with my consoles though so i?m hoping it won?t be an issue for me but the chance that i might break or have my switch stolen is always there which sucks

I'm guessing that would make using the main switch as the home console and a switch lite my on the go console impossible for this game? :( Hopefully it won't be the case

Everything Nintendo is doing regarding the save data with this game all points towards microtransactions. They must be planning to go all out EA on this game and sell anything possible to players for real cash. Letting players backup their data opens the doors for easy item duplication, and if everyone is duplicating bells, and limited edition microtransaction items, nobody (or just fewer people) will be paying Nintendo.

Sad day for us now that Reggie and Iwata are gone.

Or they're just upset over all the duping from new leaf. Theres 0 indication there will be any micro transactions and It is very impractical for a game you pay $60 for. Plus it makes... no sense. But that is an entirely different topic.

Nintendo did not like when AC players would homebrew their devices in order to re-write files and duplicate items. It most likely brought up many other possible issues they do not want to happen since idk of any other nintendo game that was so heavily altered by the fanbase. They would come out with updates for the 3ds just to combat the homebrew and other hacking methods which probably took a lot of time effort and money to do. They want to avoid this with the switch. Games already do not transfer save files to other devices through the game disc (all consoles are like this to my knowledge.... the save file for ps4 games is connected to the account not the disc.) Nintendo is just taking it a step further for NH as a result of their previous experiences.

Tell that to literally almost every game in existence. $60 isn't an outrageous price to ask. It's the standard cost of a game. It's not like they're selling Animal Crossing for $120.

That's all just your opinion.

Your argument on homebrew is not relevant to item duping. Homebrew opened the doors to piracy, not to mention a breach of contract. Of course they fixed it.

so was that spiel you said about micro transactions so.

this post was made before it was confirmed that there might be some data saving thing with the online sub so ig it's not as much of an issue anymore.

As Irishchai said, this is more likely them going overboard to prevent item duping. Item duping has run rampant throughout the AC series, and Nintendo has continuously tried (and failed) to stop it. This time they're seemingly taking no chances for it. You could argue "It's not competitive. Who cares?" Clearly enough people or at least Nintendo does for them to take these actions.

Microtransactions in fully priced Switch games isn’t really Nintendo’s style. I can’t think of a single Nintendo developed game on the Switch that has them and I don’t see it starting with Animal Crossing.
