"No talking to my villagers"

I don't mind my friends talking to my villagers, I find it funny. That's only because I only let friends in to my town.

There's only 2 reasons for people to not like it.

1) They don't want to hear about you all the time from their villager. It took over 2 months for one of my villagers to stop talking about a person who visited my town once. It didn't bother me, but it might bother other people. I will say though that if you put your dream code out there, you can have this happen too. I've had villagers talk about people who have only seen my town in a dream for a long time after they did.

2) They are paranoid it'll make their villager move away. This simply can't happen in NL unless the villager is already in boxes (and by then you can't prevent them from going anyway), so it's just a misconception based on how previous games worked.

I don't care if someone has this rule or not, because to me, it's understandable. It gets annoying when the villager constantly talks about people who have visited your town. And usually it'll last for a very long time, so long that you think 'Ohright. That person visited like 3 weeks ago.' And I know this is selfish, but hey. It's my town, and I'm the mayor, and I want my villagers to gossip about me if anything. Not other players. I want conversations with my villagers about my town, and their wants, and such. Not another town, because I don't care if that person is a bell pincher or hometown hero. .-.

It's not a rule in my town, but I certainly wouldn't mind visiting another town with this rule. Because frankly, I don't care. I don't ever talk to other people's villagers anyway. xD

True... Some villagers still talk about people that haven't been in my town for months.

Here's the thing: report the villager at town hall as problematic language. It resets their speech and they stop talking about outsiders. It doesn't affect friendship level. This is also useful if you wind up with a villager from trade who shows up in non-original clothing or something or keeps talking about his/her old village.

They're bits of code; this reset is built in for exactly this reason. To me, that's why this rule makes *no* sense.

ETA: I gave one of mine a reset for the same reason. I liked that he talked about his old village, but didn't care much for the non-standard outfit & catchphrase. He still calls me by the nickname my villagers chose, but he doesn't talk about his old village and he wears his original uniform and he random handed me a bonsai today. ::shrug::

I want all of my guests to talk with my villagers.

A couple of months back Zell made up a rap song about one of the guests. It was so funny and I wish I had written down his rap.

When a guest comes to visit -- I always ask them to talk with the other villagers especially Zell.

I'm thinking its in cases that an already reserved villager is in boxes, the host does not have time to wait around while a visitor talks to everyone, or if they simply just want to avoid their villagers mentioning another mayor for a very long time to come.

My villagers talk about my friends who visit and about their previous mayor. It's kind of a boring dialogue and I would prefer they didn't bring it up so often but I won't make it a rule in my town because its not a big deal.

Personally, I would not mind if other visitors wants to talk to my villagers-- even with my favorite ones. If they move, they'll move (most likely they would end up in my boyfriend's village), and I would wish them best.

However, if I were to visit other people's town-- I'll have to respect their rules. People have different reasons for that rule; whatever they are and how crazy some may be, just follow the town's rules. If you don't like it, you can always find a mayor who does not mind visitors talking to their villagers. In fact there are mayors who encourage visitors to talk to them. ^___^
