Noob question!

Just wondering if someone would be kind enough to explain the campsite/villager reset trick to me?

Well basically, you make a new character on a new day before going onto your mayor character or other files. Then check the campsite. If it has a villager you don't want then you go to the home screen without saving [that way you don't save the new character because it hasn't done anything or been registered] you keep doing this until you get a villager you want in the campsite. Once you find one you like, you get registered at the townhall and all that stuff. once you can save, save and then re-open ACNL and delete the new character. So that way it doesn't affect your game, but the camper you want is in your campsite and you can ask them to move in ^~^

oh, if i keep resetting for the same day (when there is a camper), will the camp always be occupied? or will it be empty sometimes and i'll have to reset again?

It will be empty sometimes...well, when I did it, I got two campers on my first tries and that was it. I gave up after ~30 resets. xD

It'll be empty sometimes. I think it depends on how many days past since your last villager moved out. I believe the game spawns a character almost a week after have only 8 villagers. I'm not sure because it's really random.
I suggest going slow and don't try to do it too quickly. Lol
