sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but...

The text chat all of the websites are talking about is misleading. Apparently, Nintendo announced that they chickened out and went with a toontown-esque chat... You're going to have pre-set things to say, even to your friends. >_<

Well typing would obviously be impossible unless you're not racing at the time.

You could type your own pre-recorded messages like in Brawl.

Does Nintendo choose things for you to say?

I am pretty sure you do not get to type your own messages, and the messages are displayed BEFORE and possibly AFTER the race.

NOT during the race.

Nintendo really needs to modernize with online play. Microphones would be the most logical thing to do, however, they think that 1st time gamers wouldn't enjoy people owning them and trash talking them. I thought Nintendo was for everyone, not just 3 year olds and 83 year olds.

Online gamers just need more integrity not to baste online newbs with trash talking.

Trash talking is the whole point of online chat. :|

Yeah that's the point. You're supposed to trash talk, it adds so much to the game. Also if you suck and you're a noob shouldn't you be playing single player? Once you become decent at the game then try multiplayer. [/quote]
You don't realize that regular people don't have time to "train". You're talking about gamers that can actually devote some time to doing that.

But I still agree with you. Nintendo's in 1996... what the hell is going on? Pre-set text bubbles? Give me a break!

If they're REALLY that concerned about voice chat, then have an on/off button. Simple as that.

I don't think we should really criticize them yet until we see what this pay-for-online thing is about. I have a feeling it will be like XBL. No FCs... yes chatting... etc. Kids can't pay... they are either old enough to do it themselves or have their parents do it, so it gets rid of any kid that Nintendo is trying to protect. Every kid on it would already have permission because their parent is paying for it. And they can't be sued.

I'm hoping you're right Storm, because this text "chat" is a real joke.

They could do what Halo 3 did. Have a mute button on players if they're trash-talking.

Nintendo should be deeply ashamed of themselves but not offering voice chat in friends matches, at the VERY least.

Mute trash talkers? Trash talkers are the only people who talk so if you would mute trash talkers there's no point in voice.

@Bul: Then it's not my fault they suck at multiplayer, get owned, and get trash talked. I'm just saying it can be easily avoided if you stick to single player until you're good enough for multiplayer. You can't complain if you go to multiplayer and suck. (However, in some games like MSC it's hard to train in single player because the AI is too easy or way too hard, but after 2 days if you train in multiplayer you'll be fine, well at least I was).

Actually, there would be. Trash talkers wouldn't mute each other, neither would friends who don't trash talk, so there's the point in voice avec mute option.

Not everyone acts like you do online.
