Not sure how egg redemption works.

I gained 7 eggs from the Easter egg hunt and decided to buy an egg collectible for 6 eggs. Afterwards, it didn't appear in any sort of purchase history and that I still had my 7 eggs, yet it said I couldn't purchase anything else because I didn't have enough funds. Anyone know what I did wrong? I haven't redeemed anything from the shop yet, so advice would help greatly.
