There are days in New Horizons where I don't want to progress for one reason or another.

The first few days, I didn't want to upgrade my house, because I loved having a tent on the island instead of a house. I just thought it fit SO much nicer. While there wasn't space, I loved having a cozy little tent on the little desolate island.

I don't know if I want to upgrade my house any more (even though I know it unlocks stuff), because I don't know how to feel about some things.
Like the back room being the first to unlock, eventually having resident services become a building instead of just a tent, etc.

And I know it's "just a game" and I'm probably overthinking a lot, and I know it's because I'm not a fan of change and permanence and the point of no return, but-

That being said, there are things I'm excited to unlock, eventually!

Have you thought about having a second islander that just lives in a tent? That way, you can unlock with the first character when you "need" to and enjoy the game as you like on your second.

i think its fine to want to do that!! after all u only have one save per switch so might as well savor it. im just too excited to see what i can do with house decorations that i had to go ahead and upgrade my house, but i wish i could always have a tent!! they're just so cute lol i remember in acnl when people would make a character in their towns just to have a tent.

that’s perfectly valid!! however you want to play the game is okay - like lucitine suggested, maybe have a side character for the sole purpose of having a tent, and have your main character upgrade the house so you can progress?

The great thing about this game is you can kind of build your own experience on it. Play the way that brings you the most joy!

I went with that! I didn't upgrade from my tent to a house in New Leaf for a good week and a half. I spent two days in my tent in New Horizons because I ran out of room and kept unlocking furniture I really wanted. Later on I might just make a second profile to re-make my campground from New Leaf in New Horizons so I can live my tent life dreams. I haven't decided yet.

And really, I only upgraded my house yesterday because I ran out of storage space. I'm probably not going to upgrade my house any further for a while. I like my small house life with my red roof that matches my bird house. And that is the beauty of the game. You can play totally at your own pace.
