According to this article.

I guess this sorta explain why in the treehouse, they were doing local couch co-op with the splatoon guy but he didn't have a house visible on the map.

But the article also says they get a house on your island? So idk.

They did such a poor job explaining this feature in the treehouse and I'm still confused and it's been bothering me...

What do you think about having your friends live on the island? I dont really get how that's gonna work. Like do they just get to come and mess around on my Island when I'm not playing? That's sure as hell not happening. Or do you get just a carbon copy of that friend and you play as "them" for funsies.

Edit: oh apparently you can rent them your house according the article. I guess that explains it.

Another edit: the article doesnt seem to have a clear source either. They just state they interviewed Aya. But how else do you explain that the splatoon guy didnt have a visible home but they said he lived on the island? He must have been renting with the players home...

I also wish they would have explain this feature better at the Treehouse. But ok, you can rent your house
to a friend now? Are they have to pay you bells and this is going to be a extra way to make money? Still
don't understand this and I'm not sure if I even would use this feature so much.

That's interesting but it wasn't explained very well yet and I doubt I'll use it tbh. It seems like they aren't just going to be able to come to your island whenever they want, but rather they just get their own house to decorate and such when they are visiting you but I'm not sure. If that's the case, it seems like it would take up to much space for me to want to use the feature.

"During a recent interview with no other than Aya Kyogoku"

And where is this interview/source? I don't want to be a stick in the mud, but I kinda doubt this information is reliable at all.

I guess it's fake then but idk why someone would post false information like that.

Splatoons guys house remains a mystery...

to make money off advertising probably. :( sorry you had to find out this wasn't true like this.

if you're wondering how nogami was able to just sort of pop in out of nowhere during the treehouse gameplay without having a house in the town, i believe the answer is very simple. the build of animal crossing we saw during E3 was a special build specifically for E3. it doesn't reflect the final version we'll have in our hands come march next year. it probably also doesn't even reflect the current test/beta builds of the game they're working out.

False information isn't really anything new. Honestly, it even seems like they could have just misinterpreted the original article as well.

Oh, so no 'Rent my house' - option then? Well, I'm still confused how all this will work at the end. Would
have been kinda weird to let your friend "rent" your house, especially since I'm still not sure how this would
have worked at all.

I mean I didn't really want the feature anyways. It sounds like a bad idea. I've just been wanting to know why mr. nogami didnt have a house when they said he lived on the island and I saw this and it made so much sense even if it isn't real. It's been bothering me.

You could be right about it being a special build but I personally dont think that's the case. I don't think that's how game design works. They called him on the islander app and they said he lived there. I think it's more trouble than it's worth to make a special build where it shows no visible sign of him living there.

We still have 9 months left, it might be that they're still implementing or fixing some aspects of having a second character, like their house. There are some things still missing that were noticeable already - if you look closely, Aya has most of the tools in her inventory already, and the flimsy axe she builds has its own flimsy-style icon, but the rest of her tools have "normal" icons, even though they're also flimsy when she pulls them out. It's a graphics thing, sure, but I doubt the programmers have nothing to work on while they wait for the graphics to be finished.

Plus, they had to make a special build to some extent, anyway - whenever anyone talks in-game, they mention E3 and how great it is to be there. The demo starts off with the opening scene where Nook and Timmy and Tommy talk about it, and how they're showing a demo.

I'm pretty sure online friends can't have a house in your town. You can only do couch co-op as shown in the treehouse live with people who have a house in your town, ie: someone you share the switch with. So no, people would most likely not be able to just pop in while you're away, unless another person uses your switch.

I would never have used a renting feature. It's just such a weird thing and I wouldn't give someone else access to my town. Hehe

I worded something wrong in my previous post. Yes I know it's a special build made for e3 but I meant to say I don't think that's why mr. Nogami doesnt have a house. That doesnt add up to me. Like you said with the tools, it was a graphic thing. But when you say it's a special build and that's why he doesnt have a home that's like saying you can hack your 3ds, switch, or computer and delete core functions and expect it to work the same. Or in this case, deleting Mr. Nogamis character and home but have him still be available to call him on the call islander app on the Nookphone.

I could be wrong and that may very well be the case but that just doesnt make any sense to me.

Article sounds like it was written by someone just completely unfamiliar with Animal Crossing, so they got confused between local and online multiplayer. For example... 'players for the first time in the series will be able to invite real friends to live inside the same town. Unlike previous games in the the popular village simulator, players can finally share their town with someone else.' ...what? We have been able to have more than one player live in a town since the very first game, just not over online multiplayer. And it appears to be the same in New Horizons.

I don't know what interview they're referencing but here's a real one with Kyogoku that states very clearly 'And though there is a travel theme to New Horizons, Kyogoku confirmed you can’t set up a tent on a friend’s island.': https://ign.com/articles/2019/06/12...layer-in-animal-crossing-new-horizons-e3-2019

Gonna lock this up as the thread's premise is not accurate.
