OCD is a very serious mental health disorder and for a lot of people it's debilitating. If you actually have diagnosed OCD I'm so sorry, but if you don't then please don't use the word "OCD" when you mean to use "perfectionism"

I am in real life a little bit but not in games and I like it because I can do in games what I can’t in real life. Lol. That’s what I love about sim games like Animal Crossing and The Sims. Also, games are more exciting when things don’t really go as planned. Like ending up with a villager you don’t like but then growing to love them eventually. Or having someone in the island who’s ugly cute. They bring in the laughs.

Sensitive crowd, jeez. I don't think the OP was trying to offend.

I feel a bit of the "O" in OCD when it comes to terraforming. I'm obsessing over everything being symmetrical. It's painstaking, but incredibly satisfying.

When people constantly treat your severe mental disorder as a joke, you get a bit sick of it, Tajikey. OCD is so much more than being neat or enjoying control. If no one mentions what they’re doing is wrong, the behavior will continue. I understand OP may just be misinformed, and I apologize but I get sick of sugarcoating it sometimes.

Just say you like to be organized or micromanage instead! Much more accurate and less demeaning to people such as myself. :)

The number of people who seem to think OCD is the same thing as liking everything perfect is astounding.

That's not what OCD is. OCD is a disorder in which the person had horrible anxiety-inducing thoughts that can only be gotten rid of via specific rituals that the person knows is ridiculous but they can't help it. The idea of it being 'perfectionism' is that for many sufferers this ritual comes out as needing to clean, wash their hands, shower, etc.

Please don't say you have OCD when you don't. You wouldn't say you an amputated leg if you didn't. Please don't treat mental health issues as any less than real health issues. You don't get OCD playing a game unless you always have OCD.

Depends what you mean by OCD. I have diagnosed OCD which has made my life hell in many ways although nowadays more controlled. But I'll admit one of the slightly easier to deal with aspects of my OCD is that, as it latches onto things I care about, it can affect video games for me. Well lately more specifically the Switch itself and a minor imperfection in manufacturing but can affect the game itself too - in New Leaf I reset for about a week, hours a day to get the 'perfect' town, in my eyes at least, and although I know others do this too I believe the OCD did have an affect on that. I do understand it's easy to throw the term 'OCD' round with no ill-intentions however it can be annoying for us that deal with it when people use the word without respect to how debilitating the illness can be. But I get not necessarily ill-intended! :)

To answer what I interpret to be the intention of the OP, I have video game perfectionism and it is very crippling in certain games, AC included.

I didnt say anything specifically about my ocd.. a lot of people go undiagnosed with mental illnesses because once u come out about your illness you're labeled with it for the rest of your life and that's not the best life decision.... personally I dont believe In labels at all I'm just defining the way I feel with the term because I know myself well enough and I also know about ocd it may not be so severe as some other people but I'm sure I do have it and I will not get myself diagnosed I do not trust the government agencies AT ALL myself maybe you all dont have ocd Ethier maybe you're just you and that's perfectly great!

Seems like a bit of a generalization. There are varying degrees of OCD with varying types of compulsions, some worse than others.

Instead of jumping down OP's throat, someone could have educated them cordially.

I'm not sure how that is a generalisation?
I mentioned all the requirements to have OCD.

-Anxiety inducing thoughts
-Ritual(s) to calm those thoughts
-Being aware that your ritual is a ridiculous thing to help, but you can't stop because it DOES help

Those are what I said OCD was. That's what OCD is.

Also I didn't jump down anyone's throat. As far as I am aware, I explained what OCD really is and asked OP to please be mindful of this in the future.

If you believe you’re affected Lotus, please feel free to contact me! I’ve been going to therapy for it since I’ve been in elementary school, so I’d be more than happy to help you if you’d like some advice. Just please understand, verbabge such as your title is not acceptable as it gives off a different connotation.

Something I’ve learned is that mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, and in order to get rid of the stigma surrounding it it must be talked about and discussed accurately. Regardless, help is out there, even if it isn’t the easiest to find. If I want given proper resources, I am entirely confident I wouldn’t be functional.

If anyone else out there needs someone to discuss OCD with, please send me a message! Regardless if you’re affected or not, I want to try to help you, I know it’s hard, but people out there love you and you can get better. <3

Also it would be nice if I knew how to just delete this I dont wanna hurt anyone's feelings

I agree with DinoTown here, OCD is a disorder all on its own, it is even in its own class separate from most anxiety disorders currently. Of course everyone’s OCD is a bit different, but that just means it isn’t inherently realated to Animal Crossing, and definitely shouldn’t be used to describe common general behaviors every one has.

Please don’t treat OCD as a joke, just say you like to micromanage or something. OCD is a serious illness that ruins people’s lives, thanks.
I'm not saying it's a joke and I'm saying I'm having a hard time

Just because I refuse to get myself diagnosed does not mean that I dont have ocd just because someone has not been diagnosed doesnt mean they have to use a different label like "perfectionalism" cause that's not what I'm talking about I'm talking about obsessive compulsion

I definitely experience the same things you do. I spent about 3 days resetting but thankfully with New Horizons, house placement isn't permanent so I was mainly resetting for a map I loved and also a Residential Services building that was perfectly in the middle of the map (horizontally as it's impossible to have it in the middle vertically..... I measured and checked all of the available maps with a ruler in front of my screen...........).

Then I would recommend you go get some help for it!

I don't have OCD but I do have GAD, so I do understand what it feels like to not want to be labelled as 'nervous wreck' and 'weirdo' and 'crazy' and everything. It was hard for me to accept my meds, because I was worried about what it meant for me that I was only capable of doing certain things while on meds.

I've gotten over that now. Yeah, I have GAD. Yes, I need meds to handle certain things. That doesn't make me less, or weak, or broken. And you aren't any of those things either.
