Pendragon1980's Creature:
So I had a discussion while I was in physical therapy today about a game system called Oculus which is virtual reality.

I did some preliminary poking around and it seems interesting I was just wondering if anybody else plays it and what they think

I personally don't own one, but my friend does, and I am planning on getting one later this year. She has the Oculus Quest, which is apparently one of the more powerful consoles and also one of the cheapest.

Having played: I don't have issues with motion sickness, but she does and if that is something you get (car sick/motion sick etc) most games won't trigger it, but do be careful. Overall, the game selection currently seems a little sparse, and the games are not super long (like you might get with, say, GTA V on PS4 or computer games) but that appears to be changing, based on the fact more studios are getting into designing for VR. (Depending on your preferences, I recommend Beat Saber (not sure if this is available on other consoles) it's very fun, kind of like Dance Dance Revolution.)

If you aren't sure, I would suggest (depending on where you live and safety re: the pandemic) visiting a VR Cafe, which rent out VR sets and games a for a few hours; I've gone with friends for parties and they are very fun.

I have the dedicated Oculus Rift CV1 and my brother had the Oculus Quest (original, not 2). If you can comfortably spend the £300 odd, then it is getting to the point where I think it's worth it, although myself I would think twice unless I had a decent PC to link it to. The Quest 2 is about comparable to some of the older gen, more expensive headsets, except that it's wireless and doesn't depend on you already owning an expensive PC to power it.

As Msskanira says though, the variety of games is fairly limited at the moment(if you have a good PC to link it to, it does increase your options a lot), and many can feel like tech demos. If Beat Saber seems your sort of thing then that alone can make it worth the purchase. VRChat and Echo VR are both free and are worth giving a try. I would recommend giving it a try before buying if you can, but don't be too put off if you do feel motion sickness as it does get better time the more you expose yourself to locomotion. Also should note that anything Oculus requires a Facebook account to use now, if that is a problem to you.

VR is certainly the future, but it's still in the dial up age, that being said it's definitely worth investing in, even if it's just for a few applications.
I don't know if the Oculus Quest 2 is out of stock still, personally I own a Valve Index, but that's not a standalone headset.

Oculus is good, also Vive, but both are in their infancy stages and expensive. It's worth delving into if you care about the future of technology and it's progression, but with such a limited variety of games, it falls short of testing and full potential. VR Chat is about the only truly fun thing on it, or minecraft if that's your flavour.

I play VR Chat and I've met some awesome people on it from all walks of life, mainly kids on there but you do get older people too. I think it was worth the money and I have the Quest version, but other than that I say if it's your type of thing and you are looking for something new, try it out and go for it! You can always resell it if you get bored.
