I'm not trying to be the wet blanket here; the direct's been mind blowing and has certainly exceeded my expectations, BUT I'm still confused about some things...

New Horizons is my first AC game so everything is new to me.

There has been so much hype about Brewster, and from what I saw from the direct all he does is serve coffee? Is that his entire purpose in the game? 😪 Is there nothing interactive about this? Like working in deliveries or something?

Also, you pay Kapp'n 1,000 Nook Miles to take you to a mystery island with different time of day/season...is that all? No mini games?

My final question is, what's this hype about the froggy chair? Why is everyone going crazy about it? Is it only a piece of furniture or does it ...IDK, have other purposes? 🤨

Brewster in the previous games gave you a job, items and stored gyroids, depending on which game you're playing. Its possible that nintendo left a lot out of the direct, only highlighting the most important points and not showing everything, since that's what they usually do. What Brewsters function is(if any at all) is yet to be seen.

Like with Brewster, we don't really know yet what the real deal is with Kapp'n. At this point, it's wait and see.

Froggy chair is just a meme. It got really popular during the New Leaf days. Yeah...that's about it for froggy chair. 😅

Brewster in NL had a mini game where you served coffee to villagers and NPC’s. You would get rewards for doing a good job. I was surprised they took that out since it was fun.

I’m also surprised they didn’t bring mini games back with Kapp’n. I liked the mini games and would have given a better reason to have friends over. You got medals for island furniture.

I like the froggy chair but not sure the hype for it.

That's what I'm hoping 😅
That they didn't disclose everything since the direct was so crammed and fast paced and they had to cover so many things.

Brewster doesn’t really do anything else, but I think it’s the same with most NPCs in this game. They don’t really do anything really. I personally loved him since AC wild world. He was all alone is his basement, not talking much. And the more you went there to see him, the more he would open up. It was so cool to see him get friendly with us, and KK would go there on Saturday night to sing. So I guess for Brewster, it’s definitely about nostalgia.

Kappn would take us to a summer island for mini games and fishing sharks/catching beetles to make money. I guess this time it would a great help for new players, they get to discover every seasons and seasonal items early. It’s great for catching up with older players as well.

And froggy chair is just a meme :)

In previous games, Brewster gave you a job to serve coffee. We don’t know yet if that’s back, I suppose we have to see until the update comes out.

He is also the only NPC to reference gyroids and is known for them. It was always speculated that if they came back, it would be when Brewster was introduced. Which was the case.

i'm just repeating what others have said at this point but yeah, in previous games you could serve coffee to villagers which was cute. a lot of this update will probably be 'wait and see' for details, since they had a lot of ground to cover in the direct so obviously couldn't go into depth about everything - plus that would've taken away some of the fun. i would agree that a lot of the hype surrounding brewster comes from a place of nostalgia, since there's just something so comforting about hearing the music from the roost and sitting there with your cup of coffee. same with kapp'n - there were previously mini games, but that doesn't appear to be a part of NH, at least not yet. i still think being taken to another island with potentially different seasons/weather/time of day is a great implementation and i'm excited to do some island hopping beyond the regular nook mile islands 😁

I was hoping you could put Brewsters shop in the town though. Because I had a plan decorating around it as a cute little coffee shop. But now with all the other things that are coming, maybe it’s a blessing it is in the museum. I won’t be able to fit everything I want. I hope you can still serve coffee. But you couldn’t invite specific villagers over before. I m hoping you can invite them to learn what coffee they like and serve it to them, but not holding my breath. It will make for some cute pictures though. Haha. We just like it because we like Brewster. It is a cute little shop.

It is unfortunate that they didn’t do mini games for some reason, but im still excited to see some new islands.

I've always understood Brewster as mostly being an "aesthetic" feature, this is why his return wasn't ever a priority to me. So I understand you not seeing the hype.

Back in the old games, KK used to perform in The Roost (Brewster's cafe) and you'd see villagers there, etc. It felt really special and it was a super chill zone in the game. And then we got jobs and stuff.

I think there is def more to Brewster in NH, you can see the DIY card by the register. I REALLY hope the new cooking feature gets implemented, maybe we can make and sell food and drinks in the Roost!

I think most of the hype surrounding Brewster was because he was one of the last 'core' features of the game that was missing, and ppl wanted him because they wanted a full AC game vs. actually wanting Brewster? IDK, that's my impression. I like the feature but it wasn't a make it or break it thing for me.

You have to remember that the trailer is only showing you a fraction of the new updates. It would be pointless to show it all in one go and the voice over in the trailer makes a point of not showing you everything. The best thing to do is just wait and see rather than speculate your potential disappointment in something that may or may not be in the game. I personally can’t wait to play through the updates and the expansion pack for the first time and be surprised along the way.

I have a suspicion that minigames will be patched in in the future. And I'm with you on the coffee shop thing; with HHP we can make our own coffee shop (and make a cafe on the HHP archipelago too)

Let me try to clear this up because I don't want this to turn another negative thing. The reason why people wanted Brewster so badly was because he was the most liked NPC back when he was first introduced in Wild World. Since you never played that game, it was pretty much you just getting coffee from him and when you do it enough times he gives you pigeon milk. In City Folk he was a fan of Gyroids which he goes into detail of what type of Gyroid he likes and he will store them for you if you speak to him. Then in New Leaf, Brewster had his own building of The Roost and you can work for him after you buy enough coffee from him. The reason people like him is that he is very calm, the music in the cafe is really relaxing and the fact that any villager can appear there and relax makes it feel alive.

To be honest you're not the only one feeling about Kapp'n while I was happy that he was back that still left me concerned. To know for a fact that he takes us to mysterious islands that have different themes are going with them. To me its more of a updated version of the Nook Mile islands but instead they have more going on with the islands. Which is making me worried that the mini games that people were hoping for could not be shown. I like to be wrong, but I am not so sure if you can ask your friends if they can travel with you with Kapp'n. If you never played New Leaf he used to send you to Tortimer Island where it was possible to play mini games with your friends.

Lastly about the Froggy Chair, its just kinda a fun meme going around the AC community that they really enjoy it and they were really upset when it wasn't in New Horizons. Its been around since the beginning. Sure when you look at its just an ordinally chair with a frog face, but it has a charm to it that people like. Thats pretty much it.

There is a chance you can store gyroids with Brewster. It’s definitely more efficient than them taking up storage space. Brewster has a gyroid in his cabinet if you look closely during the Direct. This possibly hints that the Brewster gyroids have returned, that Brewster will store your gyroids or both. Also, if the Brewstoids have returned, you could possibly work for him. I’d assume that’s the case, anyway.
