Online status problems

Sorry for the probably easy question. I've been trying to switch off my online status (the green icon next to your avi and what you are currently looking at), for awhile, but it hasn't been working. I currently have it switched off, but it still shows that I'm online, and whatever I do it won't change. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Maybe it's like the option to hide which thread you're looking at!
When I look at my own profile (or the little pop-up), it says which thread I was on, but other people can't see it. Like right now I don't see any green dot on your avatar even though you posted this a minute ago!

If you have your online status unchecked I think it shows that you’re online to you, but to others you appear invisible.

I can confirm that it is working as is intended! You will always appear online to yourself. If you open up the forum in another tab in incognito mode and go and look at one of your posts you will see that you are indeed showing as offline.
