I already know about one Island being limited per Switch system and that's fine, but do we know for sure if it's required to have multiple profiles in order to have more than one character living on the island?

I want to do a themed island where I'd play as one of eight different characters each day. If you can't make multiple characters on one profile then I guess that means I'll need to make 7 more profiles. (I will also need to make/link 7 new Nintendo accounts and upgrade my online subscription to the family plan as I want to play online with each of my characters, but I know this won't matter for most people). I'd really rather not have to do that, but it's sounding more and more like that's what I'll need to do. I really like being able to skip the account selection screen whenever I boot up a game since I currently only have the one account. Oh well. :/

Kinda miss NL where I only had one account on my 3DS and I could freely switch between my 4 characters.

I found this quote....

"Up to 8 players with registered accounts on a Nintendo Switch console can live on one shared island, and up to four residents of one island can play simultaneously on one console,"

It seems you can't have multiple characters on one account.

You mean the regular four we've always been able to create can't be done now?

Seriously?

So I'd have to create three more accounts for just my made up characters who are all me, and would be just idle?

That's quite the commitment to the game. A different character every day?!?!

oh damn yikes. I rather wait until there's more info regarding multiples, hopefully soon unless that quote is 100% confirmed.

If it's true, that doesn't make sense.
The other 3 characters are NPC's basically. Why would I need 4 accounts to play AS MYSELF on my own console in my own house.

I'm not going online with them, they would be idle as always, and there to create a themed island. o_O

I can't say with any certainty but that's certainly how I'm reading it. Disappointing.

Every day I hear something new that's been taken out of the game.

It's quickly becoming non playable.
I think I will cancel my preorders until they give more information.

Cancelled.

What's the process for creating multiple accounts on a Nintendo Switch? So each user profile has to have a Nintendo account and subsequently it's own email address?

If this is the case then it sucks. I'm not sure why Nintendo would go this route.

I used to have dummy characters on my Island for extra storage.

Me too. It's absurd.

To be fair, the multiple characters were not intended for players to use all as themselves. It's supposed to be like your sister who wanted to play, or your nephew, or girlfriend/boyfriend. It's very disappointing but lets' not forget Nintendo isn't thinking of it like we are.

I don't play the game with other people.
It's a solo game.

The very first thing you're asked when starting a particular game on the Switch is 'Select a user'. So this profile orientated system says to me that if an additional player wants to move in to your island they have to register a profile first.

I hope I'm completely wrong.

I love this quote...….

"One of the benefits of having multiple Nintendo Accounts linked to one Switch is that all games that are purchased in the eShop (as well as physical games) across all accounts are available for all users"

WOW thanks Nintendo. Than you so much for not forcing me to buy a second copy of the game for my girlfriend to enjoy.

Benefit? ROTFLMAO

I haven't done it in a while so I might be misremembering but I'm pretty sure if you're not gonna give the profile a nintendo online account you just have to type in a name and pick a pfp, no email required so it's pretty easy

I was watching a video and they kinda talked about this topic. So yeah if you make multiple accounts its all tied to one island. So basically yeah if you want extra characters in the island it will be through this method. But if I understand correctly what was being said whiching between characters has been removed(?) So that quote yeah guess that's true afterall

Christ on a bike.

I don't understand why I'd now need a nintendo account to add another idle character in my own offline game?

I cancelled my preorders.
I'm done with it for now.

If you don't intend to go online, you can just make an account that is not linked to a Nintendo account or email address. If you want to go online with that character, you would probably have to link it to a Nintendo account, but I figure most people don't need to go online with more than one character.
