Only one Character per Switch Profile?

Right OK, you can create multiple accounts without linking them to Nintendo accounts (just done that). The question remains, would using that second account to play Animal Crossing force you to link to one?

My guess is not in a million years, as surely Nintendo realise that not everybody connects to the internet to play their Nintendo Switch.

Since New Horizons isn't an always-online game, I don't think you would need to. You would only need to if you were using online services within the game.

Absolutely. Thinking more deeply about it, it's actually pretty obvious this is the case.

So John, no need to cancel, it takes 5 seconds to create a second, third and fourth (and so on) profile.

Like in NL?
No new nintendo account needed?

If so, I'll have to reorder.
It just seemed AC was being dismantled bit by bit. :(

Yeah I'm 99% sure, as forcing you to make a Nintendo account per profile just wouldn't make any sense as I bet lots of people play offline only.

In New Leaf did you create the multiple players for your island from the title page of the actual game? I think the difference here is that it's on the console that you're creating the players, so to speak. I guess the game will recognise that you've started with a new profile and make you go through the usual initiation process for moving into a new town and then repeat up to 8 times.

I reordered it.

It's really disappointing how they're handling accounts still though. There are a lot of little things that are kind of annoying about the way they're doing things with AC:NH. Hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised by the time it comes out and it won't seem as bad as they keep making it seem... I am still really saddened by the lack of ability to have multiple islands! :( They made a lot of money off of me buying additional copies of the game just so I could have a second and third island!

Overreact much?

I don't think so.

I was thinking about autosave, and not being able to undo mistakes.
Having to pay $30 AUD a year to trade a couple of times.
No backup to SD or cloud.

So it was a build up of things.

i do think its a bit dramatic to call it "nonplayable/unplayable" because of a handful of features that actually have nothing to do with the actual gameplay--you know, fishing, catching bugs, now crafting, talking to villagers, decorating, etc... all features they have improved upon vastly. everything thats breaking it for you is more of a mild technical inconvenience than anything, and doesnt really have any reflection on the actual quality of the game and gameplay. its your decision to play or not at the end of the day, but id agree your standards for the game seem entirely technical and its almost like youre not interested in the actual gameplay at all, which is maybe why the user felt you were being a bit reactionary. theyre all mild technical letdowns, but theyre worth it to me for as fun of a game as it seems.

i wonder how the new character limit will affect resetting/save scumming.

in new leaf you needed at least one of your four character slots open to be able to see where new villagers would move in their house for plot resetting. i alo wonder how easy character deletion will be.

i guess it’s a slight inconvenience but it’s definitely something you can work around, im probably going to have only 3-4 characters anyway

It was about gameplay, and not being able to undo mistakes, and thinking there were character restrictions and no backup saving method. So it has everything to do with it. If you don't have peace of mind anymore, it makes things a little less enjoyable.

I want to enjoy the game, as for the most part, it looks great, but there are a few things they've taken away that I think gave the player peace of mind in previous AC games. :)

That's the most I would have too.
No way I could do eight. :)

that's a bit annoying imo as it means my friend playing on my switch cant do online play unless she uses my character. i'm lucky as i already have a profile set up for her on my switch in preparation of Sos:FOMT. It would have been nicer if the multiple players could have been under the one profile so that we could both do online play, but we will be fine just to settle for playing with each other and i just do online play with my character on the switch.

this does worry me tho, how would we play together offline at the same time if we had to use 2 different profiles, if anyone has any ideas on that let me know please :)

They showed this in the E3 presentation. You can use the "call islander" option on your NookPhone, so another person that lives on the island can join you anytime an you can run around on the same Switch simultaniously.

But the other islander would be... me. LOL

Same for me. I don't really like how they handle saving with profiles because now I have to create a new profile for each new character but I'm the only one using the Switch, so others who have to share might have more problems with this.

Wow, I did not expect this thread to take off like it has.

Anyways, to spread some positivity in here I am still highly looking forward to the game regardless if we have to make separate profiles on the Switch for each character or not. It still sucks a bit if that's the case, but oh well. Worst case for me I will just have to make a bunch of new emails/accounts, and upgrade to a family membership so I can use all my characters online.

I know having 8 characters that I cycle around using from day to day sounds crazy, but I really like the idea. In my original NL town I had two characters, my main and an extra I pretty much never used. Playing my same character everyday started to get stale for me.

In my themed town that I made later I had 4 characters and I would cycle through them by playing as one character a day and it really helped keep things fresh. Occasionally I'd boot up a character briefly who I wasn't planning on using that day if they had a specific thing I needed them to do. But I always had one character who was the "main" for that day.

I understand for most people that having extras they don't really use is more than suffice, and that's great. You don't have to worry so much about online subscriptions that way. I'm just a weirdo who has an interesting way of playing the game haha.

As long as we all enjoy it in the end is the main thing no matter how we choose to play. :)

Didn't we figure out that we will still be able to create the usual three extra characters without needing an account? They aren't for online play, they are idle characters to go with a themed island.

Pretty sure you'll still need to make a new profile though. Linking an actual Nintendo account to said profile will likely optional though. It's required if you want to use online of course which all depends on how you use your multiple characters. Most will probably only need one online character. Myself on the other hand will need more than that. Family plan is a thing at least.
