I'm at the point where in gonna start putting paths down but I'm waiting too get a perfect town first. So once that happens should I just cut the majority of the trees down?

If you are after the golden watering can, you'll need to keep the town perfect 15 days in a row to claim it but otherwise if you just want to get a perfect town once you could just chop the trees down right away after that.

EDIT: Also what you could do if you like the trees as they are is to just keep them and you could just place paths around them if required.

The nice thing about NL is you no longer have to spread the trees out, you only need to have a certain number. So you can have an "orchard" in one part of your town and leave the rest bare if you want!

i would chop down all my trees
that way you can replant them all in ideal places
i did it and im really glad

oh but you should wait until you get your golden watering can yeah

I would recommend doing all the trimming after you get your golden watering can. It's just easier that way, imo.

What do you mean trimming once I get the golden watering can? I have the can from my last town. Another question is after the paths are down can you put bushes right by them or is that considered a dead spot?

Coincidentally I just finished laying paths yesterday. What I did was this:

I started at my Train Station and connected all major buildings/landmarks. My house, the town plaza, the town hall, etc. If a tree was in the way of a path I cut it down then. You waste far fewer axes and cut down far fewer trees this way. Paths really help in building PWPs, I have a much clearer idea of the space I have to work with now.

This is what I did, although I am also working towards picking up my path because I really want natural paths.
