So I had a custom path for awhile that I found online, but sometimes it clips out a tiny bit and apparently its enough to bother me. I want to use the default ones to avoid it, but I forgot that's why I used custom paths in the first place. Too much repetition in pathing looks bad to me, I don't know why. It just starts to look bland. Does anyone else deal with this? Like I've gotten way too extravagant with the mixture of pathings I've used together JUST so it isn't the same everywhere, but a lot of the default paths just… don't mix well. I know I sound a bit too picky. I just don't have a vision to fulfill so attempting anything and then disliking it is time consuming and frustrating

I use the two stone paths interchanging, like a checkerboard, but the irregularity of one of the stones shakes it up! I also have three custom stones that I throw in there to spice it up, and I occasionally will curve a little pie slice out to add pizzazz. I also use the normal brick path in my town center kind of area. I understand the paths aren't everyone's cup of tea but I think with some patience and a few well-placed custom tiles you can make it your own!

I use the two stone paths together too. I don't use any custom paths because I like the footsteps sounds.
Sometimes when I have a wide space I want to break up a bit I'll start adding things like manhole covers or fallen leaf stacks. Manhole covers are really handy. In my more natural areas I use the dirt path and combine it with a stone custom design for some variety.

My previous island I only used custom paths. But I've noticed that most of the islands I've found to be really cohesive lately tend to use the default paths with custom borders. Sonething about having the borders makes the pathing look really well finished, even compared to some of my favorite paths. So this island I'm going to try the default paths with custom borders this time around.

For that reason alone I could never go full custom. I would miss that way too much.

I don't really have any cool examples with the two stone types myself, since I use them in a pretty mundane way, but I've seen some cool looks in dream addresses and online.
Stone/the arched pathing with other paths! I looove the terracotta but it doesn't fit with those very well and I love the grey on them

The sound is really my problem. I love the sound the default paths make but I just can’t seem to make it work visually on my island. They all look too organized and too modern even the dirt ones. I’m such a fan of “the path” and how it looks so natural bec of all the curving edges and creative combinations you can make with it. Too bad it doesn’t make the “sound”. 
I want to start using the default paths because I’m afraid one morning I’m going to wake up and all the custom paths that took hours to lay down will be gone. I just need to figure out how to make it work with my islands aesthetic tho. I know what I want it to look like in my mind and the default paths are just not it.

I've been tempted to spice up my island with more custom patterns but yes... the sound... :/ It sounds like plastic... like you put down a laminated tarp on the ground or something lol
I'm pretty sure once you download it it's yours forever. You don't have to worry about what happens to the posting as long as you have it saved!

there are several post like this in the forum already but i experienced the same as many pp, I sued to use custom borders to enhance my paths and it looked stunning like truly beautiful BUT i missed to much the sound of different shoes or my naked feet in summer against the paths so i decided to ditch all custom design content for floors. Maybe Nintendo will upload more Path Designs at some point with some updates.
Oof the paths are so tricky in this game. At the moment I have brick paths laid out with these cute little Christmas light paths laid on top and it looks so cute and so festive but I hate the sound lol. I love the little tap tap taps that the brick path gives! I'm super bummed custom paths don't give the fun tippy tap sound of whatever main path they're laid on top of.
And I’m tired of accidentally kicking the pattern away when I try to pick something up. 
Just going to have to make the in-game paths work.Similar threads
