Hi! this is my new art thread. I recently got a new art book thing and I want to actually draw on it but I need inspiration for what to draw.

I don't draw a lot, so the third picture in the spoiler is basically my only example of recent art. the blue and pink ones were drawn about half a year ago, and I'm just putting them there for comparison.

EDIT: CURRENT DRAWING

I started a new drawing of mist from fire emblem today! I've only done the sketch so far but I want it to be rly good so I'm posting it for critique. also, I'm not sure how I should colour/outline it bc my art becomes super ugly whenever I do that, and I don't know how to properly shade (I tried it for the first time in the previous picture). anyways here's whag I have:image.jpg

maybe you can draw pave or zipper t bunny or jingle

I started drawing all three of them but Pave is rly hard to draw so it's not done yet :(

Thank you for drawing Yooshie for toastia c:
I think your art looks really good! The sketch is also superb! You are amazing at drawing clothes *~*
Only a few things: the shoulders are a bit too sharp. Make them rounder maybe?
Not sure how you intend on drawing the eyes, but don't draw the bangs taking half of the space of the face because you don't have room for eyes and stuff. Drawing eyes just over the bangs won't look so nice (if you intend to do that, I dunno).
I think it's my personal style but I like the hair to be detailed. I would add more lines to show the hair's flow and details. Hair with only outlines looks kinda thick to me, but it's completely your choice! ^^
And I'm not sure about these things at the end of the 2 ponytails. Looks a bit strange to me, but maybe it's just my imagination o-o

but it's really very good already! c:
Uhmm I have not much knowledge about traditional art, but I would outline it with black fineliner and prepare some white tippex or something for mistakes. If you have a big palette of fineliner, you could use various fineliners, for example brown for the skin, red for clothes etc. or just use crayons with colors fitting to the body part to make the outlines. for shading never forget the SOL and that shadows are "flowing". omg I suck at these things >-< I just shut up, I'm no help at all

This is the cutest thing ever oh god

But, you tend to mess up your drawings at the eyes so follow this guide
And, you could fix the shoulders, they're super pointy ; v ;;

aww thanks!! I just copied all the clothes from the official art
though. I added an updated version of the drawing with (hopefully) better hair and shoulders to the end of this post. oh, and the "ponytails" are a scarf, which is why they look weird. :p Although I'm not sure how to draw the actual pigtails. I tried it a couple times, but they looked really weird and out of place.

I don't have a fineliner, but I do have some rly thin marker pens. They're all in black too. :( I could try using paint but that would be a lot thicker and I haven't used it for a while so I might mess up. Should I try just using pencil crayons? When I use paint/markers I always lose a lot of details so maybe pencil crayons will reduce that? idk. Also what is SOL shading? I looked it up but couldn't find anything. I don't think I'm going to give her a shadow, since I'm not going to draw a background. To make the hair more detailed should I just draw some random lines when I'm colouring? I've only ever coloured stuff a solid colour so I've never done that before. thanks so much for the super long response wow ?_?

Thanks so much!!! I really like those eyes but they might be a bit too detailed compared to the rest of the drawing. :( I also fixed the shoulders ^.^

the eyes arent proportionate to the rest of the face

but she doesn't have eyes...

You should learn how to draw hands and feet.

aww I thought the vaguely hand/foot-resembling blobs would be enough. :( How should I make them more realistic without making the whole drawing look weird?

also plan ur drawings

like the + face plan

Okay I'll do that when I add the face! First I need approval for whether or not the hair looks right though, since I don't want to waste my time if it doesn't.

omg I can't believe myself that I mistook these as ponytails. I'm so ashamed ;-;
oop I should have said that, SOL = source of light. You don't need a background for shading. Just determine before you start with coloring where the source of light (lamp, sun, whatever freaking produces light :D) is. Of course you don't have to actually draw the sun or the lamp. Just imagine it and determine it. I always determine to put the sol on the right or left upper corner, depending in which direction the character stands. So for example, if you decide the sol is in the upper left, the right side of the face should be shaded and be darker, the left side of the face should be base color. For hair, you add some light reflexes on the left side for example. Hope this makes sense to ya @-@
Umm for the actual pigtails, do you have to include them? If no, I'd just leave it as it is! :D
Tbh I have not the least knowledge about paint and stuff. I NEVER in my life used these before, not even in art in school DX
I have this manga drawing book (is super old btw) and there was a tutorial at the end where they used colored crayons for for the outlines and I personally thought it looks superb, so I would recommend these instead of these markers you have there. wait a second let me get this dusty book.... ok this is gonna be a bit hard because the book is in german. I'll read through these pages concerning it and tell you what's important. If you want it to become really good, then you'll need to shade it.
If you're unsure if you will mess it up, you can trace it and try the shading stuff on the copy?
No problem, I really want to help people a bit this time :D

ok the holy book says:
- for thin lines make sure your crayons are sharpened
- trace the lines with stronger pressure
- where light falls on the lines (don't forget the sol stuff I told ya earlier) trace the lines with lighter pressure
- light reflexes can be produced through drawing lightly with the crayons and then erase but be careful not to blur
- in the book contrasting colors are used, not sure if you wanna do that. for example, the dress has purple outlines but base color is yellow and shaded is with red/orange.
- you don't necessarily need to make the outlines for skin in brown or similar colors. in the example here in that book the outlines for the face are in light pink for example.
- for the hair leave the part where light reflexes are plain white.
- where the dark/shaded area is, you can make the outlines thicker.
- add shadows behind single strokes of the hair to make it 3dimensional
- you should erase lines which seem wrong to you and try again

I wrote this probably in poor English because of translating but I hope this helps ya
and I just noticed since you asked for details in the hair. umm you basically just add little strokes...sorry I don't know how to explain this??? maybe take a look on my wip:
6PzYawL.png

as you can see, the hair is constructed out of many thin strokes.
maybe you can try it like that?? I dunno, I'm so sorry ;-;

You could always practice drawing hands. It's the only way you're ever going to get good at them. There really is no shortcut. They always turn out weird the first time.
