So... Word is that Pokemon Diamond and Pearl won't have online play in the North American versions. My rep only made things even more foggier and only said that the game would have Wi-Fi, i.e., wireless, but didn't specify if it was online or just local wireless. Do you guys think that, if the games really have been cut with the online features, that it will hugely impact sales?

I've been 'so-so' about getting the game the whole time but now I hear this I most likely won't end up getting it.

This is my major problem with Nintendo- they don't see online as an important aspect of gaming.

I'm not sure that the lack of online play will greatly impact sales, but I do think that Nintendo would sell more games if online play was included.

Like I've said.

If they miss out on the PERFECT chance to make an online Pokemon game, I'm sending them something nasty.

The better keep the Wi-Fi. >=(

I'd still play it if there wasn't, but I wouldn't enjoy it.

What? Why would they do that? Hmph.

It would impact sales a fair bit, or you could have people buying both versions instead....

I can trade with my sister...but it would be nice to do some online trading and stuff.

I've waited so long for this game just because it has/had WiFi..

I'd be really mad at NOA if neither version has WiFi..

Hang on, theres WiFi, but no online play?

...That doesnt make much sense...
Wi-Fi means wireless fidelity, which just means wireless. Wireless can mean local wireless, or online play. My rep specifically said that there would be Wi-Fi, which doesn't mean that it's going to be online. See what I'm saying here?

And Reuyl, I definitely agree. I was looking at an ad from MicroCenter that had some gaming stuff in it, and 15 out of 17 Xbox 360 titles I saw had online play, compared to 2 DS titles out of 10 and 0 Wii titles out of around 8. Preposterous if you ask me.

What would you do in online? battle? show your pokemans to people?

the fun/thrill of that runs out in about ten minutes... not worth the countless hours that have to go into making a game work online.
keep your pants on people. : (

Fish, I DEFINITELY disagree with you. Online never gets old no matter the game, especially in Metroid DS... I still play it online. PKMN is just made for online play... Trading, battling, and doing other stuff... Quite honestly. It'll be a lesser game without online play.

Well...a Pokemon will still be great without the online feature...but battling trainers online would be pretty cool. I'm not dieing over this announcement but once it's confirmed I still will only care a little.

and how the heck do you expect a company as tight about everything as Nintendo to let you trade pokemon online? It's not going to happen.

I cannot see battling being that interesting once you find out everyone with no life is better than you, and there is going to be no co-op online, that'd be too fun.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up for me, Bul.

^_^

But, I won't be too deppressed that it doesnt have WiFi online stuff...its still a pokemon game, like the others before it.
