On the collectibles discussion, I was discussing that the only reason for me to own a flower wand, heart wand, or star wand is because of nostalgia, as it’s not just the ownership of the older glow wands I miss. It’s the 2016 TBT Fair, not just because of the theme and the activities, but also because of everything going on at the time the fair was running. Bringing the Summer Nights fair back and making the original glow wands more available to everyone isn’t going to be enough to emulate 2016 today. It was a lot easier to emulate it in 2017 (which did happen for me, just not as exact as 2016), but now that it’s been eight years, it would be a lot more difficult to do so.
First of all, I’m no longer as young as I used to be. I was 21 when I first joined TBT and 23 when the glow wands first came out, but now I’m 31, I’m out of college, so it would be difficult to live that way. It’s also worth noting that over the last eight years, two of my close relatives have died, my parents have divorced, we no longer have two houses while we moved to a smaller house in the countryside, my siblings and I all have finished college and have busier lives, and my best friends from high school (who I still connect to) have busier lives than in 2016. Oh, and let’s not forget about the pandemic and how it changed everything. Even on the Nintendo and TBT-related stuff alone has changed drastically. New Leaf and Happy Home Designer are no longer the main Animal Crossing games, the 7th generation of Pokémon is over, the 3DS and Wii U are in the dark zone, TBT is in the Xenforo Era, and the community has changed. And just today, I’ve sold all of my remaining 3DS-related stuff. I still have the screenshots from my best ACNL town and Happy Home Designer, as well as my best Pokémons I trained in Alola. But the point here is that if we’re going to repeat the Summer Nights event again, I’m not going to have the same feel as it did in 2016. And that’s not even counting the Cubs’ first World Series in win over a century and South Park’s 20th Season when it it was first airing (which also helped build 2016 into a memorable year).
You can’t bring back an old memory and repeat it, but for as long as you have these memories, that’s what matters. But if there is anything you can do, it’s creating new memories of the future. If you want to help me live the good old days, you can give me one of the three original glow wands. But that’s the most you can do.
