Pokémon Pokémon presents discussion thread

I’m still cautious about both games, really depends who is developing them. The fact that Masuda is directing the remakes already tells me that there’s going to be a lack of post-game content. 😔

I for one am not upset with the chibi overworld style, because if they tried to build it up to the SWSH style they would likely end up making the maps one long hallway with barely any content and inaccessible buildings. I appreciate the faithfulness they seem to be putting so far. It definitely needs some polish though, looks much too toy-like even during the battles.

The action RPG is definitely interesting and I’ve always wanted more lore about Pokémon’s equivalent to God since D/P/PL, so I’m really hoping it’s being co-develop by a company that is familiar with the genre. I’m very glad Game Freak is finally branching out and evolving, but last time I checked they still choose to be a very small team. They’ll need some help if they want to make it the game we always dreamed a 3D Pokémon game would be.

I’ll be waiting for more info about it, but if it does end up being good, I’m going to be choosing either Cyndaquil or Rowlet, I love them both. I do lean towards fire types mostly though (except Totodile, they are an auto pick haha).

Pokemon Snap - I really loved this game when I was young and I like how it looks now but I worry that it won't be as good as I remember and it doesn't really seem like a substantial enough game to warrant paying full price. When it eventually goes on sale I'll probably pick it up for the nostalgia of getting to play it again.

BD/SP - really pleased to see these remakes confirmed as I really liked the gen 4 games and a remake of them was long overdue, the chibi style was a bit of a surprise and doesn't look perfect but hopefully it will have improved by the time it is released and if it hasn't then I'm sure I'll quickly get used to it anyway. I think I'll be opting for Brilliant Diamond as I prefer Dialga but if the game exclusive versions are the same as the original games then I'll be missing out on my beloved Spheal again, looking forward to getting Piplup back though, one of my all time favourite starters behind Bulbasaur.

PLA - this looks really interesting to me and I like the style they've gone with for this game, there is obviously still a lot to find out about this one but it looks promising so far and I'm defiantly looking forward to getting to play it. I'll be picking Oshawott as I nearly always pick the water type, other then grass in gens 1 and 2 then fire in gen 8, (not a huge fan of Oshawott but I love Samurott) but it's a shame for me not to see Chikorita as I really liked that starter too but at least this makes my choice on picking one easier.

Honestly, I'm real surprised with the art direction they went for with the D/P remakes (first off it's actually happening: REMAKES of the 4th Gen! I'm happy to say I'll be getting Brilliant Diamond just to explore the Sinnoh region again after a looooong hiatus of 4th Gen. Let me just say that 4th Gen was perhaps the weakest in regards to new Pokemon and Pokemon designs. 1/2 are completely new mons while what feels like 75% are just evolutions of previous mons: did we really need Lickylicky and Rhyperior?)

The art style reminds me what Marvelous went with in SoS FoMT~ and honestly a bit of Link's Awakening on the Switch what with everything looking like plastic toys. It's just that D/P needs more polishing. As many have already said, it looks like a mobile game.

Really really hoping the wild Pokemon battle style is nothing like Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, as in I don't want to just sit there flinging balls all day trying to catch these guys, no, I actually want to command my monsters in battle. I want everyone to gain experience individually and not via a forced EXP. All~ and please for the love of Arceus NO DYNAMAX BS in Sinnoh

It's gonna take some time to getting used to the art style, that's all. It's really not that bad and I like that it's in homage to the classic grid-by-drid, but tbh I thought the art style from SwSh would carry over to the D/P remakes so I was shocked to find out it's all chibi. I want to see elements introduced in Platinum (can anyone say Looker?) make a return, too, just like elements from Crystal made it into HGSS, remakes of Gold/Silver, which was very appreciated.

Don't care much for Legends but if I had to pick a starter you can bet I'm picking Oshawott 🥰 💖

As I said on another thread, I'm personally more excited for the Legend of Arceus game than DP remakes. Don't get me wrong, I love Sinnoh a lot, but the fact that its just a copy paste of the DS game is a little meh to me. I understand they did that in order to avoid upsetting long time fans, but I was personally hoping for more of an ORAS style remake with enhanced features and gameplay. I am still going to purchase and play the game though, but I had a neutral reaction to the trailer.

Pokemon Legends on the other hand blew me away. I didn't see the leaks this morning so it was all new to me, and I was livid when I saw the trailer. The frame rate looks a little wonky, but I'm hoping thats just because its in early development. Otherwise this game has so much potential and I can hardly wait to play it next year. This is a new direction for Pokemon and I really hope the game is just as impressive as they make it sound.

Tough choice but maybe Oshawott! Idk I really loved Dewott 😭

Also I'm officially treating PLA as a pre-make (I mean, pokemon twitter said it first) so I can say I'm going to absolutely buy both remake and pre-make, the first for nostalgia & the latter for the open world experience 💕
I think I’ll go with Oshawott too. None of the starters they chose for Legends were my favorite starter from their generation unfortunately. ☹️

Snap: I never played the original and the new game looks fun but I’ll probably pass. I might play it years later during a good sale or if someone lends me their copy of the game. I can see it being awesome for families with kids though.

BD/SP: Not surprised about these remakes we all knew they were coming. I was more hype for the gen 3 remakes personally and I liked them well enough. So I’m curious to see where they go with these ones. I will be getting Brilliant Diamond day one as I’m a sucker for mainline Pokémon games. Plus Diamond was the version I had growing up. I know a lot of people don’t like the chibi style but I don’t mind it personally.

Legends: I was not expecting this and it was a breath of fresh air. I look forward to seeing more about this game. I’m glad they are still willing to try out new things after Let’s Go was met with mixed feelings from most fans.

I suppose I'm likely in the minority, but I was extremely disappointed by this direct. It kinda ruined my whole day, to be honest. 😔 Even worse because Pokemon Day is on my birthday, and I definitely don't feel like celebrating, now.

New Pokemon Snap was something I was excited for, but now I don't know. Switch games are just way too expensive, and my favorite Pokemon, Scolipede, will probably not be included, which really bums me out. There seems to be a lack of bug type Pokemon in general, with only Vivillon, Metapod, Pinsir, and (I think) Heracross shown. I know there may still be a lot that wasn't showcased, but I'm not going to get the game if my favorite Pokemon line isn't represented... I might consider it maybe some time in the future if the game drops in price.

BD/SP - I guess I'm a little surprised they actually went ahead and made a DP remake. I honestly hate the art style they went with. It looks way more ugly than the originals. I've mentioned it in another topic, but fourth gen is by far my least favorite generation, and if they just remade it with no changes other than uglier graphics, then I'm definitely not buying it.

Pokemon Legends was possibly the most disappointing of all. Everybody else seems to love it, but all I can say is... I never asked for this. I never wanted an open world Pokemon game. I really don't like that the only appreciable difference between the modern Pokemon world and the Pokemon world of the past is a slightly more steampunk looking Pokeball and more wilderness. And I just don't like Sinnoh. It's just not the game for me.

I guess the only silver lining for me to all of this is that maybe some of the Pokemon in BD/SP and Legends will be transferable to SwSh. I'd love to be able to add Yanmega and Wormadam to my team in Shield. Also, maybe now they're getting all the Sinnoh out of their system, I can start looking forward to a Gen 5 remake?! That might make up for some of my woes.

Pokemon snap looked really good. I won't be getting it because it doesn't interest me, but if I was a whole lot younger, or if I had a kid, I would totally get it. Perfect to unwind with or tackle a boring afternoon.

DP remakes, I love the art style they did. I will not be getting these games however, because I didn't like DPPt the first time around. I just hope they keep the artstyle for future retro remakes because I love it.

Now, Pokemon Legends Arcuses is the one I have my eye on. I want more info!!! I want to know if it will have multiplayer. I think as a first trailer, the game looks great and I like the direct they are going with it. However... if you watch carefully, to me anyway, it looks like there is lagging going on in the simple movements of the pokemon and just in general here and there. I wonder if this game is one that will come out after a new version of the Switch is released Switch Pro. I know they said the game will release in 2022.
I just want more info before I decide to actually buy it. 4 gen I wasn't a big fan of... my vibe is with generations 1 2 3 5 7 8 the more. 4 and 6 I just don't like. Sorry.

I think the new games/remake look amazing! Most likely there’s going to be cosmetic changes once we near the actual release so I’m pretty confused by the complaints. On one hand I saw many people saying it better not look like ORAS, on another I saw others saying it better not be like Let’s go...

I like the chibi look. It’s adorable and no matter what they do, Pokémon fans are gonna complain. They complain about everything. Not that valid complaints aren’t allowed but I seldom see people acting genuinely happy with a Pokémon game completely.

I personally can’t wait! The only complaint I have is bc I saw a post on twitter that showed the world could look more pastel rather than dark and it looked nicer in comparison to what was presented and more close to the source material.

Also... Oshawott gang.

I'm rather indifferent to the Gen IV remakes. They look generic to me, but maybe they'll shape up to be better.

I am interested but not necessarily optimistic for the Arceus game. It will be fascinating to see how Game Freak makes use of a different gameplay format.

I'm with you on the complaints. The fandom was waiting so long for this game, and now because of its art style, they all jumped ship. A little disappointed that people can't see why they did what they did, but I mean I'm still buying it so... :)

YEAH. I’m glad to see more openminded/understanding people here. I think it’s a new and fresh look while also keeping it close to the original.

I’m also definitely supporting it with a buy. I’m excited for the remake and the style. Shining Pearl here I come!

Yes! I feel like if it would've looked like Sword and Shield, so much of that original charm would've been lost. It was surprising at first, but it's adorable, and hey, the models in the actual models look great and more proportionate to what people were expecting :)

Yes!! You get it! I love how different each Pokémon games style is tbh. Makes them special and unique.

Which version are you gonna get? ~

New Pokemon Snap looks amazing. I was interested after the first trailer, but this one was really gorgeous and called back to so much of what I loved from the original. I can't wait for the underwater level!!

I feel sort of indifferent about main series remakes, and that continues with DP. Not a fan of the art style. Will pass on this one.

I'm curious about Legends, but I want to see more gameplay first. It sort of feels like the SwSh wild areas, but without the battle cutscenes. Hopefully there will be some other big changes as the release gets closer!

I’m getting Brilliant Diamond, since Diamond was the game I got back in 2007 and when I was a kid. I’m so excited to relive it, and I’m hoping it will remain as faithful (challenging) as the original Diamond and Pearl games, with maybe some of the bonuses from Platinum :)

I feel like it’s so promising that it will! Here’s to hoping it’s everything we want and more. <3

Yessss! Oshawott gang rise up!!!
🥺🥺 Love that cutie. Dewott is def my favorite.

I’m pretty excited for Legends honestly, even if it ends up being flawed/disappointing, it’s exciting to see how they develop/change pokemon with it/how they approach world building - a lot of the wild area stuff felt promising but ultimately under developed in sword/shield so I’m kinda hoping this explores those aspects of gameplay? I have no strong feeling about the Diamond and Pearl remakes, they feel purely money-making, even to the extent of offloading it to a third party. Legends definitely feels like where the creative focus is at and I’m v curious to see how it develops, even if it ends up being a mess :’)))
