Is anyone here into the Pokemon TCG? I've been going through my old collection since the quarantine kicked in, and looking at completing some of my older sets. I also played PTCGO (the online version of the game) for a while. I'm curious if anyone else here plays the game now, used to play, collects cards, etc.?

I used to collect the cards back when only gen 1 was a thing. My brother and I tried to play but ended up making up our own rules lol.

I buy cards sometimes...but, it's hard to trust online sources (a lot of places probably weigh the packs). And I don't frequent stores like Walmart often enough to just by single packs, so I usually buy a box from Amazon once in a while...but not often at all.

Speaking of TCG...why does Nintendo hate money? How come there isn't a TCG game for Switch yet? It's literally perfect for it. I've played other card games on Switch, and it always feels great. It's the perfect layout for it. Not to mention, you could easily include Amiibo cards in physical packs to be scanned in. Having TCG on Switch would be a license to print money. It really blows my mind that they haven't done it.

I remember as a kid, a Gamestop clerk gave away to me a shiny Azumarill card that was on the shelf, too bad I've lost it with many others, but i've never played, just collected.

such a coincidence i'm seeing this thread!! i literally packed mine out yesterday at 2am.

i didn't know shiny cards were a thing?? i thought shinies were only reserved for in-game encounters xD i'm guessing they're probably just as rare in real life since i've never come across any.
a few that i'm proud of is a pretty old deoxys ex card, a japanese togepi card from 1995 (it even has a different backside), and the ancient mew card from 2000.

I’m actually planning on going to a local tournament once the quarantine ends, actually. But i don’t have any strategies planned =)

I used to collect cards for quite a while, both the old ones when I was a kid and later the new ones. I never got into playing it though, I've just always been a collector, heh.

In the TCG the original shinies were called "Shining" Pokemon. They're pretty rare and look awesome. Here's the original 8 from the Neo sets:

wow they look awesome!! i wasn't aware they had 'shining' in their names either, i assumed you'd just have to stumble upon a differently colored pokemon card. i in particular like charizard's shiny design, the purple looks good ! also i think raichus shiny design might've changed in more recent gens from the looks of it ?

It's hard to see in this photo, since the shining cards have a special holographic pattern. But I think the cards have the same shiny color scheme as the games.
