Poll to Decide a Board's Bells

The title isn't the best, I know. I'm not good at naming things.

The whole point of this poll is to vote on whether posts on the Villager Trading Plaza board should earn bells or not. I'm sure some of you are confused as to why I would propose this. Well, no offense to some of you, but I've noticed quite a few threads that have gotten spammy and off-topic. For example,

I've noticed threads going from 0 to almost 4000 posts in the span of a week. I am almost positive no other thread that earns bells has done.

So, the reasons I want to remove the ability to earn bells from the board is simple: A good amount of these threads have become the General Discussion 2.0 thread. We don't earn bells for anything in that thread, and it's essentially the spam thread, so why should we allow it in the Trading Plaza?

I don't think it matters. Many boards have the tendency to go off-topic, some more than others perhaps, but its not like you get many bells per post anyway.

The only other option is to manually report posts and get them removed to avoid clutter.


And I don't see why people can't account for an absence or two. I understand your point, but I think you may be being too critical.

I agree, but to an extent - I don't think half the people posting are intending/thinking about the bells being earned.

Funny you should mention that. I actually asked this in the Ask The Staff board.

We've talked about it a lot before, but it normally just ends badly when we do. lol

Maybe if you start a poll about it and see what everyone else thinks it'll go better. Though to be honest I can't imagine a lot of people agreeing with you on the matter.

They couldn't come to an agreement, essentially.

I agree that the bells should be removed in that section of the forums.

I personally almost never post there so my TBT bells are literally coming from Brewster's + quality posts (I have my off moments too but w/e). {: So anyone worrying about not being able to stack up enough TBT bells .. it's completely possible. I am able to afford the monthly collectibles.

You guys shouldn't be too worried about losing your TBT bell earnings from that section if it comes down to it. Unless that's the only board you participate in? Then the TBT bells should only remain a plus either way though, since your main goal there would be to find the Village you are seeking & not collect TBT bells from your one-liner posts (never just one post either, y'all be posting one-liners every few posts). :L

I don't think anyone actually "relies" on the Plaza for even a decent fraction of TBT bells. However, if evidence can be provided that suggests otherwise, I'd be willing to change my mind.

Though, its like stopping TBT earnings for Re-tail. Should we force people to the Cafe, Marketplace or main TBT thread to gather bells? Or can we let users do what they want and still be rewarded for it...

By this logic, everybody should be given bells for the Basement, and I should be given bells for the Introduction Board then.

Everything you said above happens in Re-tail too. So, by your logic, the same thing should happen to Re-Tail. Which makes sense.

I think they should add Bell-earning to the Cafe and Basement, so they can spam all they like in the proper board.

I agree! We should be awarding quality posts, not one-liners about coming back from school and whatnot.

In the Re-Tail thread there is a time-limit as to how many times you can bump a thread, so I don't feel like we need to stop bells from being earned there. The villager trading plaza also has the 2h time limit but people circumvent this rule by having multiple people bumping really... unhelpful things that go against the spirit of the board.

Edit: UGH reading people's viewpoints makes me kinda conflicted. Ultimately I don't really care how people earn their bells LOL I just like seeing quality posts.

If no one cares about TBT bells being earned from that part of the forums, then why not remove it? Also why bother keeping it there, if people really aren't relying on those forums to earn even a fraction of their TBT bells? It won't make a difference at all then, when it's removed. People will not be forced into other sections of the forums to earn their TBT bells, because you supposedly already can't even gain much from the Villager trading Plaza, right? Which means they should already be moving to other sections to earn their TBT bells, right?

So they'll be fine either way.

I think cycling thread shouldn't let people be able to earn TBT bells because there is waaaay too much out of topic in them, I don't want people who just start a thread for selling and doing auctions should be penalized by those people.
Some people like to start thread to give away , not only to give away but to perhaps earn some TBT bells.

The problem with this is that as far as I'm aware, the forum can't make it so certain threads can earn bells and others can't.

We ought to keep the bells earned because it shows that you are active. Spamming however, is a different story.

There are people who pretty much only use the Villager Trading Plaza. A lot of these people are active and contribute to the forum by selling/trading/giving away their villagers which is exactly what the board is intended for. Some of them don't want to post in other boards and that's okay, we shouldn't punish them for that. I'd just like everyone to know that this is my personal opinion and it may not be shared by the other staff.

Now if you see posts that don't relate to the topic at all and/or are mostly spam, just report it and a mod will take a look at it.

Nobody's saying it's punishment though. That'd be like saying I'm getting punished because the introduction board doesn't give bells or increase post count.

If I was to report the posts that don't relate to the topic at all, then I'm pretty sure you'd have to lock quite a few of the cycling threads.

Spam is a post that is off-topic in the board. That's what qualifies a lot of posts in the cycling threads as spam, in my mind.

I am in favor of removing the ability to earn bells in that section. Threads get bumped up in there so often, there are auctions where people are getting every other post. It's just too much. Did you really earn those bells?
