I've seen a lot of people not understanding to realize this but the feature to customize villager homes is locked behind the DLC, meaning that you need to do most of the DLC in order to unlock it. Also you have to make sure that your Resident Services is fully upgraded and you must have K.K. Slider visit your island in order for this to trigger. This is for people who recently restarted their islands since I've seen so many confused on why the feature didn't appear for them.

In case anyone asks if they have to get the Expansion version the answer is No. You can get the stand alone version that costs only $24.99 and no the feature doesn't unlock just by buying the DLC you actually have to play the DLC and make so many homes just for a special visitor to show up at the Resort. Once thats done then you can customize your villager homes. Just thought I clear up the confusion since I don't see a lot of talk about this.

Ugh, I know. I was so disappointed cause I can't get the dlc. I was excited to change Agne's ugly empty starter house but I guess not.

Yeah sadly you need to have the DLC in order to get the feature. Which I had a bad feeling this was something that I just now realize and now that I think about it, its pretty restrictive just to do all that work just to unlock that one feature. Part of me thinks this should be part of the main game, but on the other hand I suppose they wanted you to get the DLC just to make you work for it.

I can understand making it a DLC feature, even if it kind of sucks. I'm just glad there were enough free updates as well. I hope to some day get the DLC, but if not I will have to live with Agnes painfully awful interior.

Wish I could afford the DLC right now, but alas. Rent and textbooks and bills. And food too, I guess.

Oof, I'm kinda sad they made customising your villager's homes a DLC feature, because not everyone is able to spend the money to get the DLC. I think Nintendo just should have just made it part of the regular game.

well thats business. If you can afford the game theoretically you can afford the dlc. of course situations change and people may have been able to afford the game earlier, but now cannot. But this feature isn’t necessary at all and more of an add-on. it makes sense to be part of the dlc, as it is about designing homes.

Yeah yeah, everything is always about making money with Nintendo. Understandable of course, they need to make money.

Sorry for trying to point out something that would have been nice for people who can't get the DLC to have. :l
I know it's supposed to be an add-on, but in my opinion I think it should have been part of the main game.

I'm not against you thinking that. that's fine. but in the end it is a financial decision for Nintendo🤷

and yes I agree it would be nice to have without the DLC. but often nice things are not free I guess. sorry if I sound stupid and stubborn

As nice as it would be to get it without the DLC I think they did it so people would buy the DLC. If you got the decorating villagers houses without the DLC I think less people would have bought it.

Nah, you're fine. I was kind of moody when I responded. Sorry if that came off as rude.

Very true. It is a good marketing thing for the DLC. But me been me, I probably would have bought it if decorating villager homes came with the main game xD

Also once you unlock that feature you have to pay to do it. I haven’t got that far but I believe you talk to nook and then pay a certain amount of bells to do it. And I think it’s one house per day but not sure on
that part.

You only pay 9,000 bells which is practically nothing, and the next day Tom Nook gives you 1,000 Nook Miles in return for your efforts.
You can also remodel several homes a day; you can even remodel the same house again the same day if you want.

And not to mention if you don't like the remodel and you just want the villager's home to go back to normal you just have to talk to Isabelle, choose "Discuses Resident" and pick the villager that matches the home and then you should see a new feature that says "The way their home looks" and right off the bat when you do that it will undo the remodel that you did on the villagers home and it goes back to their original interior. It also works on the starter homes as well.

I assume that when you decorate their interior that you can use the items in your catalog right?
