I was thinking last night about the implementation of PWPs in AC: Switch. I really loved PWPs in New Leaf and I really loved the designs of the campsite buildings/friendship system in Pocket Camp. I feel like it would be a really cool idea if the player could unlock new PWP ideas by "leveling up" friendship with villagers, much like how you unlock some furniture in Pocket Camp.

It would be really cool to see what types of villagers would request what projects, and maybe it would be more by "themes" rather than "personality"? Kind of like the PC amenities, mixed with how in AC:NL much of the zen-themed PWP came from cranky villagers. (If that makes any sense).

That being said, what if there were exclusive PWP for certain theme/personality combinations.
(For example: a peppy villager that has a natural theme would be able to unlock something like a greenhouse, while an uchi villager with a harmonious theme might have an unlockable fountain with lotuses)

Anyone else kind of imagine it like this? And are there any other thoughts on how they might implement PWPs?

This is a really cool idea and would definitely be an interesting alternative to villagers suggesting PWP - I’m not sure why though but I can’t really imagine a level type system working well in a main AC game, but I guess if it worked in the way friendship works in NL (where certain things can happen like receiving a villager pic) I could see it!

I agree. I also think that a level type system seems to not really fit into a AC main game. I prefer
more the way by building up the friendship of a villager like it was in New Leaf. I guess they can
make a development in building up your friendship with a villager, but not in a way that it would
become a level type system.

Ah! I must have been kind of unclear on the "leveling up" aspect - I meant it in a way kind of like NL (not a level-type system, but as a building up) but with the added furniture unlock when you reach a certain point (such as with the picture frames), if that makes sense.

That makes a lot of sense, and is a great idea! I’d love to see this!

This is a great idea - perhaps every villager could have a seperate request item as to encourage people befriending some of the less popular villagers? Either that or they could double up villager requests (Chrissy and Francine having the same item, for example) to make getting all pwps slightly less daunting. Or there could just be colour variations to allow more customization while again saving resources.

that would be good, and would make people not keep the same villagers forever! if you needed, say, a cranky modern villager when you have all peppy natural ones, you're gonna need to let someone go! fresh faces that aren't solely the cutesy villagers will be refreshing.

Sounds like a good idea, because at least that way you'd have some idea of how to make them request a new PWP! Now I just go lay in the ocean for 5 minutes and run back to try and get them to request something, which isn't the nicest way to do so either.. Otherwise I can go for several weeks without any new requests!
