Since the switch doesn't have a camera, do you think that QR codes (or other way to share designs) will still be a thing in AC switch? And if so, in what format? It's one of my favorite aspects of ACNL and I very much hope they return in some form.

best case scenario (for me) would be an online database where people can upload/download their designs
worst case would be using the switch online app on your phone to scan qr codes
anyway i think they will find a way to share designs again cause they know its really popular

I can only think of having codes to input in replacement of qr codes.

Or what Amilee said and use the switch online app to scan qr codes. That's probably what it will end up being tbh.

I believe our phones will be using the QR camera in place of our switch and when we scan it using that QR code app apple/android or just the camera in general, it will launch that specififc app that nintendo has (nintendo online) utilizing the service, as that's the only other thing that I can think of that would scan photos

I hope it isn't a phone app. Not everyone has the privilege of being able to own a phone. Would not be fair to some players.

And before someone goes, "if they have a Nintendo Switchm they can have a phone!", please don't be that person...

That's very true. Especially for younger kids.

Maybe they'll make a free application for the switch where you can upload and download designs for the game.

I was actually just thinking about this today- there are so many incredible qr codes out there and it would be so sad to lose them all. I’m not super creative but love having a beautiful town, so QR codes make it feel possible and I’d be so sad to lose them :(

Really hoping to not use an app as well (my phone is likely too old anyhow); a code input would be fantastic.

Nintendo will probably design for the Majority. So while yes, some people do not have phones, that amount is not as big as the amount of people that do. They will most likely design for the masses. Enter QR app.

Maybe release a camera add on for the switch who knows.

Honeslty I wondered the same thing. However, as someone said, Nintendo will be going with the vast majority, the options of having a code, using a phone app and downloading them from an online database all require one key essential thing:

Damn WiFi.

And I say damn because I don't have WiFi (it reallly sucks). However many people have WiFi, so I really doubt Nintendo will take that some people who play Nintendo games maybe DON'T have Wifi. A large amount of Nintendo games out there do not require wifi, nor is it a needed part of the game. You can play ACNL with no WiFi at all and still play the game normally. Internet with ACNL is a bonus to playing. I am aware that there are Nintendo games that require Internet to even play (badge arcade, Swapdoodle kinda) but those games are not sold in stores, plus the ones I mentioned are free for download.

I'm kinda wondering this too. I love scanning qr codes in for new patterns, but since the Switch doesn't have a camera, I'm not sure how it will work. I just hope I don't have to put another app in on my phone just to scan. If they do, I might skip out on that one and just make my own designs.

I'm sure there will still be QR codes or some form of it, it might be changed to: Get a code for the design and upload it to the internet, or make some kind of "bank" of designs that anyone can download from probably something like this so that most people would be able to have access to designs from other people other than just QR codes

Yeah I'm kind of thinking more toward the database idea too, kind of like how they have for the Sims (at least the stuff on the sims website, at least). I think it would work better than using a phone app and probably offer better organization for the codes you've downloaded/scanned. As some people said before, smartphones aren't necessarily accessible to everyone or not everyone has the capabilities on their phone to download the app. Children are way more likely to have a switch than a smartphone, I think. Or actually who knows.

But having a database right on the switch would be ideal. That way if you're on the move you don't have to pull up a website on your phone or laptop, its just right there on the switch. Maybe something like on eshop could be offered to download. But it would be sooo nice to be able to sort through designs by like primary colors, clothing types, paths, etc.

A database of designs similar to the Check Mii Out / Mii Contest channel to find designs or even vote for the best ones via contests could be a good alternative to QR codes. Other than that, I think being able to search via friend codes to discover all the designs a person has created could work.

However, I'm aware that having a companion app is probably the most likely, similar to Splatoon 2. They could work with that idea to include an online shop with items different to Nooks each day, online banking and more! It could turn out pretty cool if executed well.

I'm feeling like they;ll have a design database-and I really like that idea!!

I think they will go with a companion app and it will require a smartphone of some kind. The Switch Online voice-chat is already gated behind an app and also requires a Switch Online subscription, so I see them doing the same here regarding requirement of a phone. I don't think sharing patterns will require Switch Online, because it isn't really a multiplayer feature and Luigi's Ballon World from Super Marion Odyssey also doesn't require a subscription.
