So, I know sloppy items can only be obtained through the... recycling box? IDR what it's called. But I realized it's the only option when I couldn't get them through Wardell's catalogue and found some in my second island's box.

But the issue is- I've never seen them in my main island's box. Admittedly I have been playing it a bit less, but even so, I feel like I should've found SOMETHING by now? I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if it's purely bad luck. I currently use my main island's box as cardboard box storage- so it's pretty full up of them. Could that be an issue? I check it whenever I remember (which is fairly often) but never see any sloppy items, whereas I've found three on my side island.
(and, yes, I know I could trade for them/buy them from someone else, but it's not the same and I'm not interested in doing that yet, lol)

This comes from the pre-2.0 versions, but the Recycle Box only has a chance to generate a new random item if there's less than 10 items already present. So if your main island's box is filled up with stuff, then you won't get anything new. It's possible there were changes made for the 2.0 update, but since you're not getting anything on your main island, I'm guessing that part is at least the same.
*sigh* Alright, guess I'll have to use my side character for cardboard box storage. Thanks!

I'm curious about this. Is there a way to get cardboard boxes to spawn in your recycling box or something? 😂

I've been TTing quite a bit lately and I've only gotten 3 sloppy items so far. I clear out my box each time because I just don't like seeing random stuff like seedlings and shirts in there.

I have been clearing my recycling every day since the update I also have not gotten any sloppy items in there. I keep hearing about them but have never seen them. I would really like them, but alas no dice.

I mean, I don't know the mechanics or anything, but I ended up with a ton of cardboard boxes in there. Maybe they changed it, but they certainly USED to spawn in there.

I know I usually get items in there when a villager moves, though. Usually an item I gave them, an item they already had in their home, and I'm pretty sure I'd get a box occasionally as well. I never pay that close attention, lol

I had no idea that you got the sloppy set from the recycle box. Will have to go clean them out on both my islands. They are filled with shirts and cardboard boxes.

I'm pretty sure 2/3 of the ones I got on my side island showed up after a villager moved. So I don't think that's necessary, but from my personal experience (again, no idea about the actual mechanics), having a villager move seems to be the only surefire way to get some items in there.

If I had to guess, I'd say they're probably on a list of items that can show up randomly, or show up after a villager moves. So maybe that makes it more likely because it guarantees at least something will show up? Again, just my guess, no clue if it's even remotely true or not. Just seems reasonable to me, lol

I thought the cardboard boxes only spawn when someone moves in. I had so many at some point cause I was cycling amiibos.

I think you can buy the cardboard box at Nook’s Cranny for 120 bells. I saw them selling the cardboard box item in the miscellaneous section at the shop (unless if you are referring to the cardboard furniture set).

i have 3 items. the rug, sink and table. the rug comes from saharah and is orderable but the other items are from the recycle bin and not orderable.

I found too that I get cardboard boxes after someone moves away.
I have the whole sloppy set....but I think I cataloged them from someone.
I've never seen them in the recycling bin. If anyone wants to catalog them give me a shout. 😀....never mind... not for sale from catalog...🤔

Had no idea you need less than 10 items in the recycling bin to have a chance at spawning the sloppy and ruined clothes. No wonder I’ve not even had any ruined clothes in there since launch!
