this is about clifftop rivers...the pond that ends the river on the third level. ive never done it before BUT!
can you make the river on the third level longer than the original landscaping to move the 'pond' further in and still have it *the pond* spawn the fish that Would have spawned if you hadnt moved it?
or does the game have a parameter for the pond being close to the edge of the third level *where the waterfall that connects it is?*

so im a little confused about what you’re asking but i can tell you that as long as your pond is pond sized (considered 3x3 iirc) no matter if you destroy it and recreate it somewhere entirely different, pond fish will still spawn. pond fish will not spawn if it is connected to a waterfall, even if your water space is small if there is a waterfall connected, it is considered a river. however im unsure how to answer the rest of your question

heres what i mean. this is the clifftop river (pond), the pond thats connected by the waterfall on the third level of the island.
i know you can landscape the upper part of this but my question is If you do, and you make the upper part of the river longer on the top level and build the pond farther away from the waterfall, but still connected to the river that youve just lengthened on the third level; if the pond will still spawn the correct river fish? the reason that im asking is because my upper level is quite thin and rather barren so i thought if i could make the river up there longer and attach the pond at the end like as seen in the photo if the original fish would still spawn there? like cherry salmon and so on....the pond bit of it would just be further away from the waterfall is all.
