Could any of you guys try to jump to specific dates, like October 31 (Halloween), December 25 (Toy Day) etc. to see if the events are coded into the game? I'm starting to think that all the events are tied to the server, and aren't in the game's code.

They could also be in the code, but locked and released only by the seasonal updates, however, it doesn't make that much sense given the size of the update we got when Bunny Day became available, as it would be a matter of simple Kbs to unlock a previously coded event - meaning they probably added all the info pertaining to eggs, egg furniture and DIY and Zipper with the update, instead of these being coded into the base game.

Also, for science, could you jump to next year's April 1st, without being connected to the internet to see if next year's Bunny Day will be active?

I haven’t tried Halloween or Toy Day or anything like that. But I spent some time in April of other years and the Easter Event was not active (though cherry blossom season was still a thing)

It makes me wonder what will happen when Nintendo stops updating this game. Say you want to play in the year 2050. Will that mean that you won’t have any events to complete?

That’s how every Animal Crossing game has been. That is why they are constantly working on the next main line game for us. How many people still play wild world? Very few. Nintendo wants to give us fresh content in the form of new games.

also: I have been in April from TT in other years and Zipper was there. Idk why not for you??

considering i time travelled through almost all days of april before the bunny day patch, i can savely assume those are patched in, as it wasn't there before and none of my villagers talked about it. assuming it will be patched out on april 13th, i guess the same applies for all the upcoming holidays.

the game is pretty new, so we have no idea how nintendo will handle that in the upcoming future. my guess is that they might just release a final patch that has the events behave like they did in the old games, so people can still enjoy the game to the fullest, even when the support for it has long since died down.

That's why I'm asking this. I'm all for preservation of the media, and if I'm right, Nintendo made a very bad decision with this game. Not only would that mean the game would essentially be dead as soon as they stop supporting it, but it would also show how out of touch with their fanbase they are, since AC is a game known for being played for years and years.

That's not true. There's still a lot of people who still play the older games. They may not be a crowd as big as the one playing the newest game (which is kinda obvious) but there would be no reason other than pure greed for Nintendo to make the game basically "kill itself" after some time.

To this day, ACGC is still fully playable. WW only has the Nook's Cranny problem (which one could solve by either playing via wiimifii or simply playing local multiplayer). I didn't play City Folk, so I can't say a thing about it. In New Leaf you would lose Digby's showroom (still not totally lost because it's tied to streetpass), and the customization of the train station, which could also be solved with local multiplayer even when they eventually cut the 3DS's internet support because that is still coded into the game.

If I'm right, they made AC work like an MMO where seasonal events aren't hard coded into the game, but stored on the server, made available through updates and then removed after the events end.

You make some great points!! Also that last paragraph would make a lot of sense! Also, it would keep seasonal items more exclusive and not so common.

I'd assumed the content would stay in games after each update - so that after one year you would essentially have unlocked everything (seasonal, anyway).

It'd be lame if this played out like an MMO where things are only available for a limited amount of time and then they're gone forever.

A lot of people still play the older games, maybe not as many as they did when they first came out but they’re still being played. Nintendo games are known for their nostalgic elements, and their art style choices allow us to play their games decades later without them feeling outdated. I definitely still like playing Wild World and would play the GameCube one too if I had a GC maybe that’s just me being weird.

I don’t know if maybe it’s because I’ve been too far ahead but I was in April of 2040 and April of 2060 and saw no sign of Zipper Bunny or Easter Eggs of any sort. In fact I stayed in 2060 to farm cherry blossom recipes and fish without having to worry about getting egg stuff instead.

Not gone forever. But until the next year. Seasonal items have never really been seasonal in an animal Crossing game

Someone else said that they saw the Easter Bunny in other years. But I saw no sign of Easter in 2040 or 2060. In fact I stayed in 2060 for a while so that I could fish and farm cherry blossom recipes without dealing with the endless influx of eggs.

They just need to make them available offline with a last patch just before stopping to support the game, it won't be a problem.

Isn't it already confirmed that updates will come in patches around the time, and internet connection will be required to unlock the event?

1. Christmas/Halloween patch hasn't been released yet
2. Since it's April, even if they were released, there would be no event until the Nintendo server says it's time.

I personally think once we get through a year of holidays or even two or three years then Nintendo will release a huge update to the game, like NL had with Amiibo Festival, and will essentially retitle the game something like “Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Celebrations” or something like that where all holidays will be loaded in and visited at any time. I think right now they just want things to be exclusive and a surprise.

Show? Everyone know how out of touch Nintendo is with their fanbase. Hell they don't even care. For a Switch game, the map is absurely small (no more handheld limitation excuses) and we have the same # of villager as New Leaf?!?
