Questions about bamboo...

I can't for the life of me find this information so I guess I'll ask... I hope you'll forgive a couple dumb questions ^^;

1. How often does Bamboo drop seeds?

2. How close to the Bamboo does the seeds drop, and can you block them from coming up somehow?

I've noticed I get a new bamboo shoot every other day. Not sure if there's a way to block them or not. I've only seen mine come up a couple of steps away from the main plant.
