Quick! Question about Nintendo Account

I was browsing the digital selection the Switch has while still waiting on my console to ship, and I saw a game that my boyfriend and I have wanted to play for a while on sale for cheaper than we've seen it go on Steam (and possibly has exclusive content? Swoon.). The Nintendo.com digital purchase page is confusing because it says the game would "automatically download" to a console associated with the Nintendo Account that purchased it. Does that mean it's not possible to make an account, buy it today, and have it downloadable whenever the console arrives? I don't have a reason to think it wouldn't but I also don't want $15 to be eaten by an error. Thank you so much.

Judging by how the Switch works, you can probably download the game once your system arrives by loggin in on your Nintendo Account. But why not wait until it's actually in your hands? You're not going to save time because even if you pre-purchase it you'll still need to download it first.

I made an account the other night, but attempting to buy a digital game without a "primary console" just causes an error message. : /

Oh, is this a situation where the games stay on sale pretty much indefinitely? I just wanted to buy while they have it discounted.

Uhh not really, there's not been a permanent sale thing as far as I know. Not even in the past.

I thought of there possibly being an error with it since your account isn't linked to anything yet but I don't think anyone tried to do this before so there was no way to know for sure aside from trying it out lol
