I was just watching the gameplay footage and was worried because I saw only items in an outdoorsy/log/garden style. I like the huge variety of items in new leaf and would be very disappointed if we could only build with a cabin/rustic style.

But there is one brief shot of a villager who has lots of regular NL items like the classic set. So I am hoping the NH catalog will have similar items to NL. Since I only saw that kind of furniture diversity in the villager’s house, it makes me wonder if that is how the recipes are acquired...villagers give recipes for items that are in their stock houses.

This would make it very challenging to complete sets, since villagers usually don’t have a whole set. Since amiibos will likely be compatible, this would make the amiibo sales go up as you would need to visit/collect all the villagers to collect all the recipes!

I have no interest in the PC style recipe thing. :(

I want to get furniture the regular ways, but that's just me.

I totally agree. It sounds like Minecraft, another great game that I love, but I’m worried there will be a lot of boring grinding for resources in NH because of this mechanic. Maybe once the town upgrades there will be a regular store and we will all be saved!!

Then again, grinding is already a thing in acnl...maybe it will be more enjoyable to collect a bunch of stuff than just hunt beetles every night? We shall see.

I think the grind will be awesome and add so much more to the game! Having to work for our stuff sounds so cool to me. I love shopping though (of course), and I don't think they're going to remove that as it is such a big part of the game, but I absolutely love the idea of the crafting mechanic (provided its not at all like pocket camp lol).

Thank goodness crafting is optional.
There's so much to grind for already.
Building materials for furniture ain't on my list.

The small stuff I don't mind so much, but I'll be buying my tools.

I am hoping to do a combination of both, maybe more-so one over the other depending on how difficult it is. Some recipes might be bit up the chain, so just buying would be nice as crafting seems to be option in a sense? There is also the completion factor too I would imagine... I might just end up crafting everything at least once anyhow haha. Anyway, I hope that obtaining recipes is like Minecraft. You craft x, then you get x amount of recipes based on the original material. I really hope there is not recipes tied to specific move-in villagers given how many there are. That would be... quite the challenge haha. I could see Amiibo related recipes being a thing though.

Sounds like a great idea to actively look for crafting "recipes", and befriend neighbours that way. I've never been a big fan of hope as a strategy to complete set (hoping that it would be on display at Reese or Nook's). And multiplying competing furniture stores (Reese, Nook, Gracie's) always seemed to me like a cheap way of getting to the same goal by just adding more potential random slots for the player to look out for once the town has been built up.

Currently, the most you can look for befriending a neighbour is getting their picture. Something you can cheaply get on April's Fool day... So I'm hoping they get more clever this time around and that crafting plays a good part in rethinking the way furnitures, and other items, are acquired.

I like working for things too. One of my favorite things about ACNL is how long it takes to “complete” the game (in my case, collect everything and make my town the way I want). What I don’t like is collecting the same thing over and over and over. Like hunting beetles...the game got so much more fun once I realized I could trade TBT for IGB and stopped my beetle-grind for good.

I kind of like the idea of villagers having rare recipes, because then some items are hard to get, but not in a way that involves grinding. Maybe you could still get the recipe by visiting other people who have the villager in their town. That would encourage a lot of visiting!

That totally slipped my mind! I would not mind (and enjoy) visiting other peoples' villagers for them.
The downside for that to me would be when the WIFI is disconnected eventually.

Have to strike while the iron is hot I suppose!

How long do you think it would take for them to disconnect the WiFi?

I like the idea of recipe's. This way, I can craft items that aren't currently in the shop.
