Reese and Cyrus

I don't see many people talking about them, and after watching the Direct last week I have been thinking....what role would they have in this game exactly? Resident Services has basically replaced Re-Tail in functions. We see that Timmy and Tommy eventually open Nook's Cranny and resident services gets upgraded into a town hall like building, so maybe Re-Tail will show up later?

I personally don't think they'll show up outside of Amiibo function, sadly. Unless they get entirely new roles, there's no point in bringing them back when their function is already used by other methods and facilities.

There are a few characters we still haven't see. You might be able to unlock them for auctions (since Lloid is doing the collection work again) or to craft the tools for the terraforming. We'll have to wait and see.

I really liked Reese and Cyrus.
I didn't mind waiting for the refurbishing.
I wish they were back in it.
The only thing I would change about refurbishing is to have a preview of the finished item.

I'll miss Re-Tail.

I bet they will show up in some capacity. People really loved Reese and Cyrus. They'll just get a different role instead.

Of all NPCs still not confirmed, I think I’d feel their loss the most. They are individually good characters, and it was honestly just so wholesome and refreshing to see a genuinely happy couple for once.

I predict they will be back! They were pretty well-loved so I think Nintendo knows that fans would be disappointed not to see them

Plus, we don't really understand how customization works in the game yet. In the direct, look at the customization scene starting at 5:35. We are shown that it costs some kind of "currency" to customize items. There are little yellow boxes up in the corner and it costs four to customize the wooden simple bed. These are different from bells, or meow coupons, or nook miles, but they seem to act in a similar way to these currencies.

Reese and Cyrus could have something to do with this. Sure, Nook shows us how to customize initially, but maybe Reese and Cyrus are needed for more advanced customization. Maybe we sell items to Re-Tail in exchange for this new customization currency. Or maybe they will sell us advanced customization recipes.

There is still a lot of room for them to return, even if they have nothing to do with their usual roles (customization or flea market/re-selling of items).

There’s a few npcs that have replaced for simplicity’s sake and there’s just a bunch that haven’t been confirmed at all yet.

Retail had a important role in the New Leaf. It allowed the player to sell their unwanted goods to villagers, and other players. This is an aspect that will likely return with or without the duo.

Selling fossils to villagers was a mass bell making trick early in the game, once you learn the max price you can set for each part. T-Rax parts IIRC could sell for nearly 9,000 bells.

While I don't think they would come back in the same roles as New Leaf I still think they might appear in some capacity. From what I gathered, the customisation feature is unlocked after attending some kind of workshop, what if Cyrus was the one who taught you how to do it. I think that would be cute! Also has anyone else noticed that outside of Nook's Cranny there is something that looks like a shipping bin from Harvest Moon. What if you put stuff in there when the shop was shut and Reese would be the one to pick it up? Idk just an idea

Thinking back on previous games, it's not very often (if at all) that characters don't make a return in some capacity. They usually just get some sort of new role.

I think bubbleblib may be on to something, that Cyrus might teach the customization workshop.

I also noticed that there is some sort of 'currency' that you need in order to customize the furniture. So maybe they have some sort of shop or system where you can earn that.

even if it's just a cameo i hope reese and cyrus return. they were a very refreshing addition to the animal crossing world in new leaf and people love them a lot.

For example:

Etc...

I don't believe they will take out any characters because of the Amiibo cards, so I'm sure Reese and Cyrus will be in the new game, possibly with some other sort of role. Like a few other people have said, there is a new currency to be able to customize the furniture, so they may have something to do with that.
