So resident services is kind of the new plaza and town hall. However, one thing has got me thinking. In the map we saw, I believe at E3, RS was almost in the center of the map.

I wonder if it will always be in a central location, or if it will be in almost any location similar to how the plaza, town hall, and Retail could be almost anywhere in New Leaf. I would really hate to get this map in NH and have it right in the middle of the map since it is essentially just a giant dirt patch wasting space.

I would think they would allow it to be in different locations to give the everyone's towns a unique design, but who knows.

Hopefully we will be able to relocate it, if it always starts in the middle of the map.

I can't see them having a map where the shops are always in the same place.

That would be boring.

I think it will be random, like the location of several different buildings was in the previous games. However, I don't think we'll be able to relocate it once we start the game.

If there would be a plaza tree instead of the RS in the central location, I would call this my dream map,
lol. No seriously, I love the way how the river is here, reminds me of the Wild World maps. I guess it
will be random where the RS will be at the beginning and once you start building up your town, I could
imagine that you get the option to let Nook moving it into another location. At least I would be kinda
disappointed if the RS would block a good spot where you want to build something else there but you
can't move it to another spot.

I'm curious if it will even be a permanent feature to the island. Nintendo knows how much people hate undecidable and unmovable terrain. Perhaps as we unlock more, the resident services can be relocated as a full building.

I have a feeling it may always be in the middle- it’s supposed to be a hub zone, where you go to make a bunch of stuff....
But I have a feeling it’ll be temporary. Like, there until you build your first actual house or something, by then you’ll have proven capable of handling the island, might have longer lasting tools or at least have your own workbench, and Nook’ll pack it up and that space’ll be yours to work with or settle down on.

It might be possible to move it later on, but I'm not entirely sure it will. Most likely it will be in a random place and not in the middle always. I actually quite like the map they showed at the E3. It reminds me of my favorite map in Wild World, what with the river being split in three ways. I have to admit, it does take up a lot of space though, so hopefully it won't be permanent.

I think the dirt patch will grow out to be the main town plaza with the townhouse and the town tree that it was in New Leaf. On the other hand, I don't think there is enough place for the shops, museum, club LOL, Sable & Mable sowing shop, Leaf's plants and landscaping boutique, etc. in the town proper since it would seem the island size compares to what we had in New Leaf. That's a big mystery to me. Where will the shops be located.

Was re-watching the direct from a few weeks ago, and in the video they say resident services is located in the center of the village. I hope they mean it as a central gathering place and not the literal center.

I would certainly hope that we are able to relocate it! There are a few things that are starting to make me nervous about the game lol (I always manage to find something to worry about) you would have thought that it won’t be the literal center... but at this stage I am preparing myself for a few disappointments. I would agree that the dirt patch will probably grow out to be the main plaza but it is possibly going to be the retail, etc area. I mean it is on a remote island this time so we probably can’t expect a Main Street. I’m nervous you guys

Having it at the same spot for everyone would seriously limit the river positions so I have my doubts that'll be the case. It has to be accessible walking from the dodo airport and since there're no bridges at the start of the game, I think the dodo airport's location may actually be randomized to accommodate for the plaza. I think the Plaza will be stuck on the bottom half of the island though. (i.e. Not on the cliffs.)
