Restart Questions

Havnt played AC in a year but I really want to pick it up again.
I know the switch only supports one save file at a time. Is there a way I can transfer my current I save to the cloud or whatever and start a new island on my switch. If I change my mind, can i then delete it and backup from the old save file?

There’s no way to recover save data through the cloud once you delete your island. Unless you transfer the data to another switch, you’ll lose everything

What if you changed memory cards? Is it possible to have save data on one, and then start a new game on a new one? Or is the AC data saved specifically to the switch's internal memory only?

You technically can, but if you wish to back up your new Island, the old one will be deleted. Restoring a backup isn't something you can do on your own. A Nintendo employee can do it for you. I'd suggest not trying anything just in case. Nintendo isn't likely going to give your save back just because you changed you mind

If you want to restart, I say go for it. It can breathe new life into the game. I would wait until after the Direct though. I would wager the Cafe cannot be unlocked until Art has been unlocked, and it's unknown what other features are coming.

Save files are not on memory card, they are all on the Switch and cannot be moved

Just watched the direct. Looks like I won't have to reset until I get the airport colour I need if I can just customise my lamposts on that new island. Now I can choose any airport colour and have nice white lampposts
In the end I decided to mail a few items to a friend's island while I reset. If I miss certain villagers that much I guess I can just buy the amiibo cards to get them to move back in
