Change TBT
TBT is a great place and a great forum. But, to keep it that way, things MUST be done to both streamline the place itself and keep the place bustling with activity. Here's my study on what needs to be done to help TBT's forums. This is my opinion along with others.
Revamp and streamline boards-
TBT has LOTS of boards- which is easy for new members to be confused by. TBT needs to have fewer boards and categories, that all all fit into much broader areas. For example:
TBT HQ <-Category
Announcements <-Forum
Video Games <-Category
Animal Crossing <-Forum
AC <-Subforum | AC:WW <-Subforum | AC Wii <- Subforum
Other <-Forum
Off Topic <-Category
Off Topic <-Forum
Get rid of the Wishing Well or Off Topic board- choose one.
Having two off topic boards, one in which you don't gain postcount and another in which you do is pointless.
Boards and systems that need to go:
-Sages
-Bell system
-Wishing Well/Off Topic (one of them)
-Ranking (not necessary)
-Post-count (not necessary)
-The Basement
-Bell Street
-Red Rock
-Arcade
-TBT IRC
An active user campaign
TBT needs new, active members; not the same people that have been here forever, and not 2 time posters. We need an active campaign- banners, advertisements, more affiliations to get users attracted to both the site and forums. Now, we need to keep them coming back.
More AC related activities
People come here to play, discuss, and learn about AC. We need active, well-organized contests (with prizes), and activities. Not stupid, kiddish 'camps' or anything. REAL sorts of AC:WW meetings, get-togethers, and more. Things like these will keep new members who are interested in AC here and posting.
New skins with same theme
TBT needs 4 new skins for each season all with the same theme. Our skins are good, but they don't quite follow the same theme. The trees idea at the top is great; keep that changing with each season like in AC.
Get rid of regular smilies
The gyroids work fine, get rid of the yellow default ones.
No ranks or sages
Ranks and sagedom promote people to be serious spammers or kissasses. We don't want any of that. And plus, sages do NOTHING. Sages are HALF the active people here anyway, and a new one hasn't been named in God knows how long. Ranks with additional privileges are also a bad idea. It makes people WANT to post more, useless garbage. Instead, implement some sort of user 'badge' system that users can win by winning a review contest, etc.
There is a lot more that needs to be added to this list, but these are just some of the core things that need to be changed with this board. Drop the site for a while, and focus on what started it all.
