the sky was gray and hazy, kaede could feel the humidity in the air sticking to his skin like the plague. he'd been perched towards the top of the tallest oak tree outside the east gate of camp balba, one of the smaller refugee camps in the location. he'd spotted a number of guards walking the perimeter at every half hour on the dot, never late, never early, always armed and ready. he'd finished writing down all that he could about his findings into his worn out journal before placing it safely back inside his leather jacket's hidden pocket. he was about to start his decent down when he heard the snapping of branches and low growls below.
"****" he sighed, looking down only to find that an infected was clawing at the base of the oak tree, pulling itself up onto the first branch. he made a mental note to write down in his journal that these pricks can climb.
"you really just had you ruin my morning, didn't you." he scoffed, pulling out a .40 caliber beretta to blow it's brains out. the gunshot rang loud and he knew his location was blown.
there was no way the guards within earshot of his location didn't hear the round. after placing the gun back into it's holster, he climbed down as quickly as possible. he wasn't about to find out just how unruly this camp was, not after what happened the last time he tried to get into a refugee camp.
once on the ground he bolted north toward's the mountains. the mongu river was just a few miles north of his current location and he could make it there before noon struck. today was going be a long day.
Mami, armed with her childhood baseball bat and her fathers old revolver, had just crushed the brains of one of those creatures against a wall. "That one was tough." Mami said, flexing proudly to show off a little to her sister who seemed to be shaking behind her. Mugi readjusted her glasses and shivered in terror. She really hated all of this, she was just happy her sister was here to protect her. What would I do without her...
Mami smiled softly at her sister. "Hey, it's going to be okay. We find one of those refugee camps. They will help us, I promise."
Sprinting towards nowhere in a barren desert on a cold night, Ayush was exhausted. He looked back, a flock of infected were mercilessly chasing at him, teeth bare with saliva dripping like they haven't eaten since centuries. His Desert Eagle was out of ammo, having just brawled his way out of a hospital full of infected, where he was held captive.
As he kept running, his despair kept on rising. There was no end to this hopeless pursuit. He had to risk fighting them. As he put his hand on the handguard of his katana, he felt something on his feet. One of the infected had grabbed his feet. Almost instantly Ayush slashed away at his head, cutting it off. He cleaved through the flock, fighting like a merciless warrior, until his blade got stuck in an infected. He was shoved down, and he fell on the cold earth.
((Since I never told Aerate that powerplaying is frowned upon, I'll react to his post. But a note to everyone else, you only have control of your characters. You can't make another player's character do anything. Thanks!^^))
.:Aiko:.
The female playfully tossed her dagger up into the air, catching it by the blade. She disregarded the blood that spilled from the knife cutting her palm; she could hear struggling nearby and knew she should help. Darting towards the sounds, she let out an aggressive growl and plunged her weapon into the the dead that was holding down a man. Hopefully he was a human.
"Are you okay?"
Aiko sighed, not waiting for a response. She planned to keep moving, not to save some boring survivor from the lifeless. She was so close to the river, and all she could think of was the glittery, crystal water. She was thirsty, she realized, and she hadn't eaten in a few days. Maybe this male could be of use to her. A smirk crossed her pink lips before she pointed, speaking gently.
"Come with me."
With that, she turned and walked in the direction of the water. At least... where she thought she remembered it. Hopefully the male would follow, Aiko knew he couldn't survive on his own.
Somehow getting up with a bit of struggle, Ayush gazed at the strange woman who saved his life. She seemed a bit crazy, with the ominous smile and the brooding hair. He reached for his gun, only to realize he had nothing to protect himself with. "Maybe I should follow her after all. Insane as she may be, she has a way with her blades." he thought. He suddenly realized how hungry he was, having eaten nothing since days. Maybe she could help him find something.
kaede's breath was staggering as he halted at the bank of the river, the water crystal clear and moving steadily, untainted. he glanced around, eyeing the trees and the brush scanning for any signs of movement before reaching into his backpack to retrieve two empty canteens. he filled them as quickly as he could before returning them to the battered bag, sighing contently as he pulled out a stained cloth bag. this river bed was notorious for it's large variety of berries and edible plants that lined it's banks, and now was the perfect opportunity to refill his bags.
it had been a few days since he was last here and not much was changed, minus a few new fallen trees, but it was still peaceful being alongside the river. almost as if the world hadn't truly gone to ****. smiling to himself, he quietly crouched beside a rather large brush of berries, quickly gathering as many as he could when he heard inaudible voices in the distance. kaede froze, holding in his breathe as he waited in silence for the voices to grow closer, unable to distinguish just now many there were, he quickly packed away his bag of berries and bolted for the nearest oak tree to climb.
'you can attack what you can't see', he thought to himself as he pulled out a rather sharp dagger, waiting for the voices to come closer.
Nate threw the cigarette. He grabbed his map, Trying to find a refugee camps. "Okay...So they said a refugee camp was here...?" Nate pointed at the location. "That's a long way, I don't even know if i could make it. I could probably die...." He said, Now grinning. "Well...Everybody dies at some point and in this twisted world. I must kill who ever threats me or tries to kill anybody i love. Nobody loves a psycho young adult right?" He stood up knocking down a beer bottle with it shattering making a loud noise.
The female froze slightly when the sound of broken glass pierced the air. Somebody else was nearby. She reached into her pocket to wrap her dainty fingers around the familiar knife, holding it in case this person thought they would do something funny. She glanced around for a second, making sure that none of the dead nearby had noticed them, but it seemed they all were headed towards whatever made that noise. Aiko was tempted to go back, but she knew it could have even been something... inhuman... that broke the glass. Regardless, she kept moving towards the river until the sound of moving water made itself known. She turned a bit and smiled at the boy following her.
"Hope you have something to carry water in.. if not, drink up. We don't have much time."
She checked the surroundings, nothing. She looked up towards the trees, all empty. She'd seen the monsters climb before, but luckily, she couldn't see anything nearby.
"Hurry," she told the man, "before others come along."
As she spoke, she hurried to the water and filled her old water bottle to the rim.
Delighted at the sight of the glistening water flowing through the river, the fine lad immediately reached for his backpack and grabbed one of the empty wine bottles he grabbed from the abandoned hospital and rushed towards the river to fill it up while drinking some himself to quench his thirst. As he was filling himself up, he heard the screeching of the clickers roaming about, reacting to the noise of the broken glass from an unknown source.
"Hey, we should scout out the area, see what route we should follow from here on out."
He spotted a large oak tree. "I think I should be able to climb this baby up". On reaching the top, he looked about and saw an old windmill just towards the North. "I think I found something".
Just as he moved a bit, the branch he was standing on broke. He skillfully landed on the groound without hurting himself, but it made a large noise. "This doesn't look good. Brace yourself" he blurted out, cautioning the woman from potential danger. Just as he was thinking of something to protect himself with, he spotted a dead body, and beside it, a crossbow.
kaede chucked at the sight of the unidentified man falling out of the tree, surprised to see he landed on his feet. "you've got killer instinct, kid" he complimented, pushing out between large branches coming into sight, knife still in hand for caution. he smiled briefly as he eyed the two new faces, "?'d really like to ask you two your names," he paused, hearing the distant screams and snarls headed their way, "but it seems we have company coming this way" he huffed as he jumped down to the ground just a few feet away from the boy, eyeing him up and down before turning to look back at the unknown woman to smile. "so can i trust you two or not? " he questioned, knife still in hand.
"We could ask you the same thing."
The female smirked, pulling her hand out of her pocket slightly to reveal the shine of the blade. She turned in the direction of the noise, blowing her bangs from her face to clear the way for her vision. She didn't know if it would be smart to stick around or if she should run and ditch the two men, but she would find out pretty quickly once the dead came around.
"I guess for now, we'll have to trust one another. We have no choice."
It was a few seconds before one of the herd emerged from the trees, gasping and growling as it approached the trio. Aiko leapt forward to plunge her blade into the forehead, but the creature moved at the last second and she hit it straight it the nose. This was a woman before, her brown locks tangled after many months of death. It saddened Aiko, reminding her of her younger sister. The eyes were hollow yet focused on the blonde female as she removed the weapon with a grunt and placed it in the center of the forehead where it belonged, causing the rotting humanoid to collapse.
Before Aiko could smile at the others, more of the dead emerged around the group, causing the female to step back towards the males nervously.
