Root canals

has anyone here gotten a root canal? im getting one on wednesday so im really nervous. i've read a lot about them but i'd like to hear from someone who has actually gotten one... does it hurt? like a lot? im already in pain but i want to know if the actual procedure will hurt (

I've had several before. I really suffer with my teeth and always have done. Having several courses of chemo hasn't helped them so I'm actually due for another root canal after I've finished my antibiotics. Unfortunately previous ones I've had haven't lasted long. I've always had to have the tooth extracted. The dentist is refusing to take this one out though,probably do they can get more money from me from my repeated visits. I feel for you, having problems with your teeth is not enjoyable. Actually find toothpains one of the worst pains to have

Oh and no it doesn't hurt loads, the dentist should give you plenty of anaesthetic since your tooth will already be very painful I imagine. Just tell them if you can still feel it and ask them to stop and repeat the anaesthetic. Shouldn't feel pain from it afterwards

yes and it sucks. i had to do it because the dentists had ****ed up the tooth while fixing it ):
it doesnt hurt bc they give u pain stuff but it takes so long, it tastes awful, the sound the instruments make is bad, your jaw gets stiff from having ur mouth open for so long and your mouth feels really weird afterwards. i had mine done in like 3 or 4 (if i remember correctly?) different dentist appointments so yyyh it is Really Not Great. when i got it i was listening to an audio book to have something to concentrate on, that can b a good thing or just listening to music idk.

good luck !!! n it is worth it, before i had it done my tooth was hurting a lot but now it never hurts at all so yay!! it is just that getting it done is rly annoying

Root canal treatment itself doesn't hurt. The only thing that hurts is the shot of local anesthesia they give you before the procedure so your mouth gets numb and you don't feel anything.

If you've experienced a dental needle, those hurt more than root canals IMO. If you haven't, the needles don't even hurt that much and the pain only lasts a couple seconds.

Also like LinkToTheWorld said, if you can feel it they'll give you another shot which will hurt even less since you're already partially numbed.

It's really not as bad and scary as people say it is. Not sure why but I was given general anesthesia when mine got pulled so I was asleep for the whole thing. It's only the week after that really sucks as you can't really eat or drink much... I'm pretty sure once I woke up the first thing I wanted to do was down a cup of boiling hot coffee, only to get the cup ripped out of my hands xD I hated those stitches

Root canal therapy and tooth extractions are two different dental procedures. They're not having any teeth removed, or at least none were mentioned.

Oh my goodness! My boyfriend has an appointment on Wednesday for his root canal. His tooth is cracked from the base up.. So a root canal is going to hurt a lot less than that. Although it is different for everyone. Still root canal hurts a lot less than a cracked tooth.

Oh yes, forgot to say it's more the anaesthetic itself that hurts, you'll find your gums are quite sore for a few days after too, so just be careful with your brushing. I normally use my soft brush after I've had needles in my gums. And the anaesthetic tastes awful but it spins goes away. Honestly, you will be fine and out of pain when it's done

I had a root canal in high school after a skiing accident and it didn't hurt at all. Actually, the entire nerve had been severed in the accident so the endodontist didn't even have to use freezing.

guys i got it done today!!!!!!

it didn't hurt much, i needed a lot of anesthetic since i could still really feel pain... other than that it was ok. i can still taste a bit of the shot?? it tastes awful & i also get a bit of taste of something awful idk what it is.

either way it wasn't that bad
