Subtitles

I'll use subtitles most of the time if I'm watching something in a foreign language, otherwise I don't really use them.

For English, my native language, it depends on how hard it is for me to hear what's being said. By default I don't use them, but I'll turn them on as needed. For things that are in Spanish, it depends. I'm learning Spanish, so I try to watch things in Spanish without subtitles, but if it's something that I want to make sure I understand, then I'll turn Spanish subtitles on and maybe even English subtitles if really necessary. I don't watch many things in Korean nowadays, but if I do then I'll try without subtitles first. For things in other languages, I don't speak them at all, so I'll watch with subtitles in English~

I like subtitles and use them a lot. Not all the time, but usually. I don't have them on when I'm watching with others because they often don't like having the extra text on the screen. Anyway, I just like them because they can pick up on a word I didn't, or if the dialogue changes to a different language for a bit I can still know what's going on without having to pause->turn on subs->restart dialogue scene->turn them off after, and idk I kind of just like how they look on the screen.

almost always have subtitles on whilst gaming, watching a TV series or a movie. i'll turn them off if they take up too much of the screen or if they aren't synced up completely. usually don't have them switched on for youtube stuff

I usually have the subtitles on whenever they are available when watching television, apart from if it's a live programme as they are out of sync! However, I hate them switched on when watching YouTube.

I have auditory processing disorder, so I need them LOL I always use them on video games and movies/tv unless I'm with someone who hates them

But I can like HEAR the people, but I can't actually make out what they're saying most of the time

I like having subtitles as a safety blanket. Even with good hearing, sounds or dialogue can be difficult to pick up or understand, especially with things like accents or other noises occurring at the same time.

I feel sorry for those who find it distracting, and I recall feeling the same when I started watching subbed anime. But I got over it and think other people should at least try to, since hearing loss is inevitable, and there are many people who need them to be able to enjoy media. I have some poor IRL experiences with people who were not considerate of others with us who needed them. They couldn't enjoy movies, out of courtesy for the ones who found them annoying, when it should have been the other way around. :<

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure convinced me to go full sub on that one. There are other titles were I couldn't keep watching due to the voice actor line delivery, like Ninja Nonsense, the main lady must have thought she was in some kid's show like Barney, despite the lines she was reading.

i don't prefer to use subtitles as they are sometimes a little distracting to me but am not bothered if anyone else watching with me at the same time would like them on. the only time i use them is when im watching something in another language, such as anime, movies, tv shows, videos, or game cutscenes. but anyways for anime i always watch it in dub unless im waiting on the dub episodes to come out, where i will watch the sub episodes in the meantime.

i always have subtitles turned on when they’re available no matter what. i always worry about missing something or mishearing something so i rely heavily on them even if what I’m watching is in english

i like having subtitles on whenever i’m watching a movie, occasionally on youtube as well

since i watch subbed anime, i definitely need subtitles haha but if i’m rewatching an old series i do it mostly for the fun of it since i already know what’s coming up and will see if i can understand the japanese without the subs (sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t)

my biggest grievance with it for movies or shows are when a character is speaking another language and the sub just says “speaks in [foreign] language” … i know that !!! i want to know what they’re saying !!!! that was useless!!!

oh i’ll also do it for french media because i really need to brush up on my french again before i forget it completely haha

I always turn on subtitles for video games when I see it's an option. I've been used to them since the beginning of time

It's a HUGE must for me to have CC and Subtitles on because, I'm Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Some shows don't have Closed Captioned and suffered the lack of knowing what's happening since you can't always lip read everything they are saying. I use CC on Chrome for Twitch since some streamer don't have theirs on and required them to turn it on each time unless using the broadcast. Kind of a pain, I know. LOL! Even with hearing aids on I still need to have subtitles on for any anime or shows even older shows and movies.

Huge pet peeves of mine when the Subtitles or Closed Captioned started to messed up, glitching, typos, delaying and doesn't match what they are saying. Other than that, if I'm not really watching, you don't need to turn them on. You can always ask if I want it on or not. xD
