My native flowers is rose and I'm in the Northern Hemisphere.

Unfortunately Nintendo decided to force people to buy online membership so as such you only get 3 flowers out of 8 possible in your island. You have to go online to other people island to get the rest. Same as fruits.

They might be seasonal, or if not all of them then I think at least lilies might be as I'm in the northern hemisphere and never saw a single lily until I time traveled to around July so I could find summer shells and ended up seeing lily seeds for sale in my shop! The same situation happened for my friend who I initially got lilies from--he's in the northern hemisphere and wasn't able to find any lilies until he had TTed to the summer season and lily seed bags then appeared in his store.
it is actually possible to find any other flower in your nook's cranny store in any colour (at random). it happened to me once on one of the first days I played (hasn't happened since). but yeah, getting them from other people via the internet is much much quicker

Huh, that's interesting because I'm in a discord group with a lot of friends who play and I kept asking "hey, has anyone found lilies yet?" because I badly wanted some and nobody ever did until one of them got his game TTed into the summer. One of them also said that a lot of people must be having trouble finding lilies because they seemed to be in high demand online. Even if they're not seasonal, then I wonder if there's just something about lilies that makes them rarer--they were the only flower I had so much trouble getting.

I tried resetting my game I was so desperate for lilies, and guess what? We are also capped at only 3 options for starter flowers. I reset for 2 days in hopes I would get lilies or dom. Dom obviously came first. All I got repeatedly over 80 times resetting were mums, cosmos, and roses. I tried lots and lots of things including deleteing the game and redownloading it, and wiping my switch, changing a nintendo account + the user, nothing. It seems to be "embedded" into individual games or consoles.
It's very unfortunate. Trading, right now, is the only way to go.

nope. nothern hemisphere here. sister and boyfriend have mums and roses. I know people in northern hemisphere with lilies too. Each player is capped at 4 randomly assigned unlockable flowers in their nooks mystery islands and nooklings shops. Upgrading the shop does not change this, planting new flowers you swapped for with people does not change this, selling them, gifting them to villagers, WEARING THEM, nothing changes this.

Wow, I'm on a discord with a dozen or so other people and we also don't have lilies. We have all the other flowers though, and we are all northern hemisphere. Thank goodness for the forums for trading!
