hey guys. i was talking to my friend today at lunch and he said that animal crossing is NOT an rpg....i mean im not completely educated in rpg games.....but i would think that animal crossing fits the description......??? same as legend of zelda. i mean....you dont choose what they look like but you do choose the name and stuff.....idk im not saying anything for sure. but i want you guys to say what you think.. :ermm:

Animal Crossing isn't an RPG ;)
RPG's mostly consist of fighting, leveling up, and checking/comparing stats. Saying Animal Crossing is an RPG is like saying The Sims is an RPG :veryhappy:

RPG = Role-Playing Game. Are you not playing the role of your character in AC?

Anyway, according to Wikipedia AC is a Life Simulation and Role-Playing Game.

I think AC would lean more over to the Life Simulation category....but you are right about how it could be an RPG.....i just think that games like Final Fantasy, Earthbound, and Pokemon would be considered more of an "RPG" game instead of Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing is not an RPG. Saying "Oh, well you're playing the role of your character" really isn't a valid point, seeing as you play the role of someone in practically every game you play. Mario Galaxy was not an RPG, though you played the role of Mario.

I feel this eerie calmness in the air....like the feeling you get right before a big argument......

final fantasy and pokemon are great examples of rpg's...
unless we are talking about rocket propelled grenades... :gyroidconfused:
then we have a problem...

Quote from Wikipedia:
Typically, gameplay centers around one or more avatars, with quantized characteristics that evolve over the course of the game, and take the place of the gamer's own skill in determining the outcome of the actions taken by the player. These attributes are traditionally displayed to the player on a status screen as a numeric value, instead of a simpler abstract graphical representation, such as the bars and meters often favored by video games in general. Another common element in RPGs is a well-developed fictional setting.
Now before you say that attributes are not displayed on a status screen as a numeric value and whatever else you could say, the reason is that it's a Roleplaying/Life-Simulation game, meaning that it takes parts from each type of game. Bdubs is most likely correct about it leaning more towards a Life-Simulation game than a RPG.

If you have a better genre to define AC, go ahead and say which.

I would say Animal Crossing is mostly Life Simulation, but it may contain some bits of RPG style elements......*ahem*
*points to my previous post*

Yeah, all valid points. But Life-Simulation is probably the best bet. Nintendo wouldn't want to scare away the casual gamers with a... *GASP* Abbreviation! :O

Also, after you point it out, it really is both of the genre's.

Also, also, lol at the guy who was like "OMG ARGUEMENTZ R GONNA B HAPPENINZ!!!!" just because me and you are debating something.

LOL AC is an RPG guys youre playing as YOU only you can do more stuff and yes you can customize your own character based on what you say >.> <.< WE <---(they) know that

How does Wikipedia fail? I want a detailed explanation, please. If you can't give me that then don't even bother replying.

Anyway, I'm not starting an argument, bdubs. If people want to have a fit about my posts then that's their problem, not mine.
