To make a long story short, my wii doesn't work with SD cards. We've bought three so far and none work.

Hmmm.....what r u saying the wii will not read the S.D. Card! Did u go to wii system memory go to the S.D memory card files.....if the wii said there is no S.D. card inserted when there is one......something is wrong!

I just use my camera's SD card.
Have you ever accidentally inserted the SD card backwards or inserted any other foreign objects, like a Sony pro Duo stick maybe?...
Maybe it's the Wii's Problem.
