Sending letters

Hey everyone,

Has it been confirmed whether you can send letters online to friends? I've read mixed comments about it. Some say you can't send at all but I've read from some people that you can send but only to best friends. Anyone know for sure?

Just tested it out, you can send mail to friends.
You can write it to your best friends and normal friends!

EDIT: I just noticed that they have to visit your island first though.
