I was recently trying out FireAlpaca and playing around with it with this as the result.

I wanted to improve my highlighting and shading because it looks a tad awkward in this picture, and the hair is also a bit stiff with some flawed outlining here and there, but my current focus is shading. Any help, please? :3

The important thing to remember about lighting is to keep it consistent. Decide where your light source is coming from. If your light source is coming from the upper right, keep highlights on the upper right of the drawing to show where the light would hit. Keep shadows on the opposite side. If the light is coming from the left, keep your shadows on the right side.
The key is just showing where the light is.
Give it a shot! Good luck!

I'm definitely no expert with fire alpaca so take what i say with a grain of salt i guess xD

well as the above user already mentioned, you do want to keep a definite light source. However if you're just looking for a "front on" kind of light source i suggest you don't shade to heavily in one particular area. (that depends though) I notice that you didnt add any shade/darker color and only a highlight. i do have some color palletes that may be helpful if you arent sure on how to pick the right tones of stuff. (but then again, there is no one "right" way of shading c: )

As for the hair:

The right side is weird ;A; depending on your subjects movement/wind the hair should follow. The left side was done alright but they look like wads of bubblegum stuck together. I get that its somewhat part of the style but perhaps make her pigtails a bit more thin and try to use less lines. Also have the right side fall "naturally" instead of leaving it suspended in the air like that.
