So in Florida you can get your permit at 15, however I'm unsure if I should since my birthday is later this year I can drive to school and have much more freedom, or is it to dangerous and young?

15 is pretty young. I actually waited all the way up until I was 19-20 to get my license. That may seem pretty late, but it's just how much I don't like the idea of me being on the road. I just see so many reckless drivers and texting while driving it makes me feel unsafe on the roads.

get it as soon as you can. better early than late it can help if there is an emergency. there is no cons to starting to learn early.

If you think you can handle it and you think you can do it safely, then sure. But yeah as Tom said way too many people around doing things they shouldn't so as long as you're not an addict to those I guess.

don't wait, you'll regret it, if your school is anything like mine was, youll get to leave school early if you can drive

Well in Australia even if you get my learners as soon as you can, at 16, it will still be until you're around 25 until you'll have your full license.

Not sure what state you're in, but where I am, you can have your full license by 20.

I got my permit at 15. The law was different back then haha (in my state). I don't know, thinking back on it, I think I was too young to drive. You're still growing and getting used to your body. We had so many accidents because of learner cars but part of that could be that people would purposely bother beginner drivers haha. On the other hand, I think regardless of age, when you first learn to drive it can be difficult. I would get it and then if you don't feel comfortable driving, wait a bit or drive with an experienced driver.

I got my permit at 15 but didn't get my license until I was 17. There's no reason not to at least have your permit and get practice with an adult as early as possible.

It's just a learner's permit right? If you feel like you can handle it I say do it. This way you can get in a lot of practice with an adult before you get the full license!
Don't feel bad about it though if you feel like you need to wait. I didn't get my driver's license until I was 19. There's no shame in doing things at your own pace!

In my opinion, I don't believe you should get the permit. I don't want you to go thinking that I doubt your driving ability or anything, but I'd like to think you may want to build up your experience a little bit first. At least it wouldn't hurt. Also, you need to consider if you actually need it or not. I mean, do you really need a car for here you're going, or do you just want it. Additionally, although this may not be a concern to you (I don't know your life), you also have to consider the additional costs of insurance. I could only assume you wouldn't be paying it all yourself, so it would end up being an additional financial burden on your family. These are just my opinions, so the choice really just ends up being yours, but I hope that I've at least helped out a bit!

Mind if I ask how one gets experience driving without their permit? If OP tries getting experience without the permit and is caught that's worse than just having the permit.

I don't mean physical experience, so much as I mean a general understanding and knowledge of what you should or shouldn't be doing when behind the wheel. Something as simple as sitting down in the passenger seat and having the driver go and explain the ropes. I have no way of knowing what they know, so the best I could do is recommend knowing as much as you could beforehand. Does that make sense?

I'd say it's your maturity. If you feel ready, go for it. I waited cause I didn't feel ready and I'm glad I waited. I feel more mature and comfortable on the road than when I did when I was 17.

?????

I got my learner's permit at 15 and some change here in Virginia, I was excited to get behind the wheel and learn. I dunno how differently it's done in FL, but in VA they taught Driver's Ed in school and then required a Driving Instructor sign off before you could get your full license after meeting the requirements. At the very least you should look into all the requirments of the state, I doubt they let teens drive solo on permit alone.

Oh hey I didn't know you were from Virginia too.

But yeah I was about to say, I don't think any state in the U.S. allows solo driving with a learners permit. I got mine at 15 and 6(?) months and got my full license at 16 and 3 months old.

I'd recommend getting it, it really can't hurt.
