Should voting be required in America?

I mean a lot of people, or at least a lot more than you think are actually educated enough to care about contributing to the system

I know, that's what you meant. Australia is a big place, thus a lot of people, and most of them I've had no interaction with so have no frame of reference to their opinions and such. The above was based on my personal experience and my opinion, which I believe I was clear in stating. Just as you have likely come into contact with people 'educated enough to care about contributing to the system' as you say. I have come into contact with people who don't believe the system works and don't beleive work contributing to. Thus our opinions on the larger picture differ. I've not got the knowledge to be sure on what is fact or not, and likely neither do you. Unless you're very knowledgeable on the subject, which you very well might be, I don't know. Either way you may be right, or I may be right, or we might both be right, or both be wrong. I don't really feel like debating it with you, since I don't feel either of us stand to gain anything from it.

Either way my main point was that you can't force someone, to vote if they don't want to. You can force them to show up to the poll both, but that's the extent of it.

I don't follow politics. All of them liars and this two party system is ********. Half of the world is unhappy at all times. I don't feel like voting because nothing ever changes anyways

Seeing as American politicians are coming up with schemes to KEEP people from voting (I E: License laws) I don't think it'll ever happen. America's legal system is kinda... corrupt? I mean this alone right here keeps millions of poor voters from casting their ballot and thus gains more "Votes" for the politician who put the law in place.

More over. Your vote for president? Doesn't count. They may say "Oh yeah, your vote always counts" But it only counts if you are in the electoral college. You're electoral college rep can vote against the majority vote in his district. He's not supposed to, but this happened in Austin in the last election. Austin voted bleeding blue, but the EC Rep voted red and Austin was in an uproar. Basically, he disregarded the popular vote for his own. Basically, what's the point?

The whole system is corrupt, they teach kids in school that it's perfection and they omit very important lines from the constitution when teaching. People have the right to overthrow the system if they deem it unfair or unjust. But no one where seems to know that. They ***** and moan on radio and TV, but they don't do anything about it. If you're that unhappy, do something? It took several men to make this country, Brave men. Yet now a days everyone is to busy to give a **** it seems.

Sorry, derailed from the subject a bit.

No, it should not be required. America was founded on the freedom of choice. People can choose to vote if they wish, people can skip voting if they want. Taking away that freedom of choice is forcing people to chose something they do not want is kinda wrong. That's against the constitution, too, which America was founded upon.

Freedom, 'murica, forth of july, murican flag. Yeah okay I'm done.

No. People have lost faith in voting, because it's completely useless. It's a shame that it's finally taken us this long for some of us to realise this.
