It’s an interesting question because Nintendo was pretty clear that there is more in the 2.0 update than they were able to show in the Direct.
My thinking is most of these extra features will be either: A)
very small features that weren’t worth showing in a Direct because they wouldn’t be as exciting for most people, or B)
larger features that might be harder to find or obtain, not wanting to show things in the Direct that some players might not ever see when they update their game.
My feeling is a number of interesting things are still possible. Some have been listed already in this thread. Other features have been found in datamines, which have now proven to be more correct than wrong as almost every datamined major feature has now been added to the game.
- New fruits and vegetables beyond what was already shown. Nintendo said explicitly that there will be more vegetables than we’ve seen. Dataminer’s have found entries for squash in the past.
- Fertilizer seems like it might be sold by Leif on Harv’s island.
- Perfect fruit could return and has been datamined before.
- More furniture than what was shown. This one is practically a given on some level.
- A third upgrade to Nooks Cranny, which has been datamined more than once. Would be a good time to add an upgrade to their shop with all the new furniture available now.
- A museum shop, likely opposite to the Café on the second floor. Less sure of this one though.
- Katrina visiting the island occasionally in her own boat at the same spot Redd’s boat visits.
- The return of the luck mechanic and fortune items have been datamined.
- New lines for Isabel’s public announcements have been datamined in the past.
- Unused changes to Museum Day have been datamined before.
- More villager dialogue and animations. We’ve already seen some in the Happy Home Paradise, DLC, but we don’t really know how much of that will also apply to our own island yet. Jobs will be probably be exclusive to the Archipelago though.
- I’d also like to see options to customize the appearance of the town hall and the airport, even just a little. I miss this from Animal Crossing: New Leaf and felt it added a bit of a different vibe to each town. (I used to love the ‘modern’ option for my old town.)
I think most of these are small enough or possibly difficult enough to obtain that there’s a chance of seeing these in the 2.0. update. Of course, I doubt all of these will be in, or maybe none, who knows.
As for things I actually don’t expect, for some reason, I doubt there will be many of the requested ‘quality of life’ updates many of us want. I get the impression they’ve shown most of what we’re getting there. It seems to me like a lot of the game intentionally left out some of those features by design to slow the game down. (Though I still feel we should at least be able to batch craft fish bait and probably some of the new cooking stuff too.)
I also think there will be no new fossils, bugs, or fish. That seems to be something Nintendo reserves exclusively for the next entry in the series. Mini-games also seem major enough that they would probably have been in the Direct if they were included in the 2.0 update. It seems there will be no new clothing either, as none were spotted in the Direct. And as of right now, it does not seem like we will be able to build any new buildings on our island, which is a little disappointing, but at least we’re getting back most of the NPCs on Harv’s island.
