holy frick HOW IN FRIK'S NAME AM I SUPPOSED TO CONVERT 11 FRIKIN PPM TO A PERCENT THIS IS GARBAGE ASYDGASDAUSIHDIUA

ok. thus stars the rant thread. post about all that petty trash goin on around u that deserves a good rant

also, ppm to percent conversions are dumb

Well a percent is 1/100. One ppm is 1/1,000,000.

The difference is 4 zeroes, but if we want to show our math then 1% is 1,000,000 divided by 100 equals 10,000 ppm.

We kinda want to calculate this the other way around though, so 1 ppm is 100 / 1,000,000 = 0.0001% (we simply added our four zeroes to the left this time 🤷‍♂️).

That times 11 equals 0.0011%. This has been Math with Mick, have a nice day

I honestly can't really decipher what you mean with that, but it's possible that we are confusing ppm (parts per million, so 1/1,000,000) with per mille here (1 permille, also written as 1‰, equals 0.1%).

I suggest reading your books very carefully. If that doesn't help, try asking your teacher :)

ahh nice bro
yeah well it says that 1% = 10,000 ppm ... which is different from what you said unless it means essentially the same thing in different forms
the way the book was converting it (the example, which is what i tried to copy): 340ppm over 1 x 1% over 10,000 ppm, and they got 0.0340% as the answer. anyway i tried to copy it but it made zero sense cuz i had no idea if i should multiply the 340 by the 1% and then divide or just divide 340 by 10,000 ....
perhaps all of my problems are coming from my algebra calculator which of course makes everything "algebraically correct"
anyway. yeah sorry to be so confusing but now that i know ur such a math whiz im prob gonna take advantage of that sorry xd seriously bro u good doe 0-0

If we want to show our math then 1% is 1,000,000 divided by 100 equals 10,000 ppm.

In that case, the book and I seem to agree! Again, but without the calculations:

1% = 10,000 ppm
1ppm = 0.0001%

To convert 340ppm into a percentage, you have two options:

Option A: take the percentage for 1ppm (0.0001%) and multiply it by 340.
340 x 0.0001 = 0.0340%

Option B: take your 340ppm and divide it by 10,000 (which is 1%).
340 / 10,000 = 0.034%

It sounds to me like your book was taking option A here. Because:

340ppm over 1:
340 / 1 = 340

1% over 10,000:
1 / 10,000 = 0.0001

which means 340ppm over 1 x 1% over 10,000 ends up being 340 x 0.0001.

Hope that makes sense! :)
