Looking at New Leaf sites, for example Nookipedia, the description of the smug personality doesn't seem to fit what I see in game. I'm playing the French localized build, so that might be why.

The description of the smug personality describes smugs as gentleman-like, very polite, formal personalities. Is that right ? My experience with my smug villager (and other smug villagers in other towns) is that they are nothing gentleman-like. They are real divas that cannot stop talking about themselves as 'movie stars' that have a huge fan following and that the player is lucky to be able to talk to them. Self absorbed, self important and self congratulating. I don't dislike smugs. It just doesn't match what I'm reading on these sites.

I've got the French version, and they pretty seem gentleman like to me, especially when I had Lopez, he was quite flirty x)

I have Lopez. He is flirty with female character I guess but I wouldn't say gentleman. He's always talking about the difficulties of having a huge fan following crowd and his star accomplishments and so on. Are they acting the same in English ?

My experienced with Henry the smug frog is that He is ? real Casanova. He LOVE girls. He is ? charmer too and never late to join ? party. He is verry social and fast to become friends with peapole and even if he wont admit it he is verry geeky :p i dont think he is That self obtained but yes he likes to talk about himselfe some times but in that remark JOCKS are far worse divas in my world. :)

I've had a lot of smugs and they've all been extremely flirty and over the top. Not so much gentleman-like, but yeah more like divas. I do love them lots though. They can be really geeky with the train obsessions and stuff like that.

I agree they don't fit a "gentleman" description. Being overly flirtatious because you are full of yourself is not what a gentleman would be like....IMO.

Henry have never talked about Any fans or that he are ? star o_O' but he croukes happily when its ranining (probably ? frog exlusive thing) thats really cute

I've had 3 smugs, none of them have been "gentlemanly" in the slightest. They hit on the female character and female villagers a whole ton. I only like O'Hare because he's got a cute little top hat.

For example, when I travel and talk to a smug villager, they will tell me that 'I must be one very dedicated fan of his' to have been making all this mileage to see them...

Well, i guess they are kinda playboys xD

There seems to be a very different experience from players if you are a guy or a girl and there might also be differences between language builds...

Yeah, it says smugs may especially flirt with females. Then again they can be KINDA gentlemanly if you don't take small compliments as flirting… O'Hare always compliments my hair bow wig.

While I agree that smugs aren't gentlemanly and that they are flirty, I have never come across any smugs in the EU version of the game who say that they have any sort of fan following...

If anything I've had a problem with Flora (a Peppy) going on nonstop about having a fanbase/how Pete needs to be careful with the sheer load of her fain mail yadda yadda. My old Peppy, Twiggy, was never as bad as Flora is about being so self-absorbed :/

Henry is very flirty as stated before, idk who writes those descriptions on those sites, they need to do a re-evaluation it seems.

Then maybe it's a misnamed personality? Was it called 'smug' in Japan?

Maybe they're supposed to be like that towards their neighbors. XDD

Probably there is ? missunderstanding in the translation yes... I have never thougth about it cause i dont even know the meaning of the word smug. I know that the villagers are divided in personalities and i have guessed the personalities of the most of them bit before animal crossing the only words in the list that i was framilar with was peppy and Lazy. :p

Yeah... And obviously i knep the meaning of the Word normal :p

Neither Jacques nor Curlos seem that way to me. I wouldn't call them gentlemen-like, but they're not rude or overly snooty or anything like that. They just like poetry, consider themselves romantic, and supposedly enjoy other things like books, music, and films, and that's about it really.

Also, yeah, I can't deny that they're flirty.

I have a feeling peppy villagers talk less about themselves the more you get to know them. I've had Twiggy since the beginning and she hasn't been as much like that for a while, but both Tammi and Victoria were always completely self-obsessed. Never got their pictures, but I've got it from Twiggy.

It makes sense that smug characters would be like that, since that is the definition of being smug. However, I haven't really noticed it with Graham, he seems more interested in what other people think of him. He's also slightly geeky, although not as much as lazy villagers are.

I think the peppys can differ more Than that. Apple and i never clicked because all She Did was talking about her as a star and me as her loyal groupie. I got her picture anyway. Now i got Bunnie who also Can be irritating in her own peppy way but She is not that mutch refering herself as ? star with ? big fan group. She is really selfish and often start arguments with the other female villagers but i like her more Than Apple only because i feel that Bunnie isnt too mutch to handle
