Smug personality

First off, Nookipedia is not run by Nintendo or its affiliates. It's fan-made, so you shouldn't consider it official. That description of the smug personality is completely wrong.

"Smug" is the perfect way to describe how this personality type acts. It seems some of you don't quite know the meaning of the word (or even know that it's an actual word) so a quick Google search of the word might help you out. I'm not sure about the French or Japanese version, but in the English version they like to talk about themselves and act like they're the awesomest thing alive. They're a bit full of themselves. Despite this, they are still very friendly. They can also be a bit flirty to both male players and female players.

Y'all need to be cautious around sites like that, there is so much wrong info out there.

Then maybe it's a misnamed personality? Was it called 'smug' in Japan?

No, it wasn't. It was known as "boku" personality in japan. Boku is the Japanese term for "I" but it's primarily used by males.

Regardless, I've had around 5 smugs sofar but I think the "gentleman-like" part is moreso towards how they act to their neighbors. I always see my smugs flirting with the neighbor girls and planting flowers by their houses and stuff. -shrugs. I think Nintendo named them correctly as stated above: they are smug. I play the US vers though, not sure how other versions portray it..

Well Nookipedia isn't to blame as it's a very good wiki site if not the best. What I reported here is something that is all over the web : they all talk about smug characters as gentleman like and flirty to women. It is just that I never really experienced my smug like that : Lopez is always acting self-obsessed and tells me I'm a lucky groupie to be around him. To me, smug seem like the the equivalent of snooty for male characters.

..I love my Tex ♡ He was the first smug character I met (and my first villager pic I got). Maybe it's because I've had him for so long, but I never saw him as conceited. I always took the self compliments as goofing around, an act. Especially when he goes into the mini daydream monologue, where he talks about being on a sports team or dating a movie star or something, and ends it with "yeah, I know we don't have any of that here in [town]. ..Now I kinda feel dumb." *wind blows* XD if he's conceited it's in a playful way (if that makes any sense)

To me, it seems, that the word 'Romantic' would describe them more than 'Smug' would. Or, perhaps, 'Dreamer', as they fantasize quite often. C:

I will enjoy calling them Romantic/Dreamer instead. ♥

(But honestly, I think the names of the personalities were very mistranslated- especially Normal. Outward friendliness coupled with self-deprecation doesn't define 'Normal' to me; Rather, I feel it as a point of concern.)

Yeah, that bothered me too. But it is a Japanese game, and that is (stereotypically) what is considered normal in the culture, especially for girls. At least from what I've discerned from my limited exposure of Japanese culture (which is basically internet and anime..)

This is very correct. Exactly how smugs are, and definitely don't believe everything the fan sites say :3

Kyle: Gentleman like.

Julian: .......erm

I've seen people talking about this before... all of the animals are really self absorbed, imo maybe besides normals and lazies. Smugs do become much more sweet at high friendship, but are still flirty. I consider them the male counterpart to snooties, who also can become friendly.

Some of them seem semi-gentlemanly to me. Phil isn't that bad, for instance. If describe it more as an informal politeness, though. I haven't had too many smug villagers, however, so I couldn't really tell.
